From Publishers Weekly Tommaso's first book-length work displays a handsomely quirky drawing style and an incipient talent for emotionally complex storytelling. A side trip to the racetrack (using mob money) results in a fatal misunderstanding between Trevor, a slacker hit man/courier for the Jersey mob, and his bosses, who decide he's stealing from them. Trevor goes into hiding and the Family asks his cousin Abigail, an apprentice hit chick and Trevor's former protege in crime, to find him. Abigail's search turns up Patty, a troubled mutual childhood friend, spurring a series of memory flashbacks-a familiar get-me-out-of-this-house portrait of a suffocating Italian American family-that provide the emotional backdrop for this ultimately tragic story. Despite Tommaso's efforts to portray characters trapped by fate and familial circumstance, the book's pop cultural and alternative-comics conventions (small-time wise guys screw up caper; cute, gun-toting Generation X heroine); and an ending centered on a predictable irony make the work seem slight, if entertaining and well supported by Tommaso's deftly mannered, cartoon-realist drawings.

Review "...displays a handsomely quirky drawing style and an incipient talent for emotionally complex storytelling." — Publishers Weekly (review of the first edition)"The story is wonderfully told. It has the feel of a classic movie, something from a bygone era complete with the usual cast of chancers, crooks and have-a-go heroes... It’s a thoroughly enjoyable book, with a stunning backdrop and a deeply believable and interesting cast." — Andy Shaw, Grovel (review of Tommaso's 2012 graphic novel The Cavalier Mr. Thompson)

I love mafia stories and this held my attention throughout By Nicola Mansfield The story starts off as a crime involving younger members of an Italian mob family but this is really just the background. What the story explores is the family dynamics within this "dysfunctional" lifestyle. Abbie starts off as a secretary with "Uncle" Gary until she proves herself and becomes the enforcer she's always wanted to be. She's partnered with a cousin who ends up ripping off the Family. Things are not exactly what they seem but Abbie becomes deeper and deeper enmeshed in the life, while still having a naivete about the meaning of "family". We meet another youngster, Patty, who lead a life of drugs and has finally got her stuff together raising a new little baby. Here, it is all the Family who shows up at her place and helps her to turn herself around. Abbie loves the family but also starts to realise no family blood is stronger than the interests of the Family business. She spirals down and seeks retribution in the end. I love mafia stories and this held my attention throughout. Even though Abbie isn't exactly a likeable character one can sympathise with her as she's a well-defined character. The art is very good for b/w ink drawings. The author has given the book a complete makeover from its 1995 release, bringing the first half of the art to match the second half and he talks about the change he made in the lettering and why. I enjoyed this and would read the author again.

He pockets the money, and then the horse wins. His cousin, Abigail, a hitman-in-training is sent to find him. The action splits between Trevor's and Abigail's perspective. We see their history, their town, and their families. No one in this story is happy. No one in this story believes in much beyond themselves. Life is, and life sucks. The main characters are shells of people, drained by their environment and their life styles. There is no real joy or love in them, only apathy with occasional bouts of anger. Tommaso's art style, as usual, accents the bleak and grimy world of the narrative. It is stylized, telling, beautiful, and ugly all at the same time. This book is a good read, if you are in the mood for this type of story. I recommend it highly to all.

It's not easy to find, but is a good example of a finely executed comicbook story. The grey tones in the book are a great strength and Rich's illustrations are rich and beautiful. The story is probably it's weakest point (in terms of believability), but having said that, it's still a LOT better than many Superhero stories one might read.If you like rich's style, then you'll find his book 'Perverso' a better executed work. This one is still great. Definitely worth the money & time.
