Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. Tracking down Max Benton would involve walking straight into a den of temptation. Of course it would.Pru could practically feel the bass from the nightclub's music entering her body through her feet and rocking its way up to her hips. The music came courtesy of Mike Benz, an up-and-coming half Dutch, half Cameroonian DJ who was enjoying his first stateside residency at Sin, one of New Orleans's premier nightclubs. His beats were fantastically good. So good, they awakened a long-dormant urge within Pru to get out on the crowded dance floor.Back in the day it hadn't taken more than a glass of champagne and the right song to get Pru on the floor. And she'd often stayed there all night, enjoying bottle service courtesy of her latest boyfriend or admirer, dancing with her fellow showgirls until she couldn't dance anymore. Back in the day, her number-one goal in life had been to squeeze as much fun as she possibly could into her twenties, and to prove to everyone she came in contact with that Prudence Washington was the exact opposite of her boring name. She was no longer a showgirl or hell-bent on proving that there was nothing prudent about her. Nonetheless, she was currently dressed to party well, in a little gold mini-dress pulled the day before from her mother's vintage collection of seventiesera cocktail attire. She considered it a uniform, the uniform she needed to get her job done. Her current job being Max Benton. And she was all about her job, which was why instead of hopping on the dance floor, she headed straight for VIP.The hulking security guard standing at the bottom of the roped-off stairs that led up to the VIP area gave her an approving once-over as she approached. She must have had a little of the old Pru magic leftover, she thought. She'd made the right choice. In the background, she heard the DJ announce that he was taking a break but would be back on the turntables before the night was through. Then his excellent beats were replaced by canned Top 40 music playing at even higher decibels."You on the list, baby?" the security guard asked, lifting up his clipboard. She threw him a flirty look. "Not quite," she admitted. "The guy I'm here to see is trying to stay under the radar these days, but if you tell Max Benton that Prudence Washington is down here looking for him, I'm sure he'll appreciate you letting him know. Really appreciate it.'''The security guard didn't respond quite as hoped to her insinuation that there would be a nice tip involved if he passed along her message to Maxwell Benton, the younger, not nearly as responsible, Benton hotels heir. Not only did his face harden, he moved to stand between her and the black velvet rope."No Maxwell Benton here," he said, his voice completely monotone."Are you sure about that?" she asked. "Because I know he'll be upset if he hears I was asking for him and you didn't let me up."She hoped. The truth was, she was banking an awful lot on the fact that Max Benton had stepped to her twice. The first time had been at his brother Cole's wedding to her best friend, Sunny Johnson, about a year ago. The second time had been a couple of months ago, right before Pru's retirement from the Benton Revue, at Cole and Sunny's baby shower.Shortly after the shower, Cole had cut his younger brother off, refusing to keep issuing checks for the brand-ambassador job he'd been assigned. Back when the Benton had been one luxury hotel, having an international playboy as the brand ambassador had been a good idea. Max had been all too happy to gallivant around the world, living the kind of life that perfectly encapsulated the particular decadent brand of luxury the Benton was trying to sell to its affluent guests and gamblers. But then their grandfather had died, and Cole had taken over the Benton Group. He'd expanded the Benton from one hotel into a nationwide outfit of luxury casino resorts, which served to draw even more attention to Max's international escapades. Which wouldn't have been a problem, except then Cole started making plans for the Benton Inns, a new chain of midrange hotels that would cater to non-gambling clientele whose pockets weren't deep enough to afford a stay at one of the Benton Group's luxury properties. This new market expansion meant that Max's infamous reputation was no longer compatible with the Benton brand.According to Cole, Max had stormed out of Vegas soon after Cole gave him the news about being fired. He sold all his stock in the Benton Group to some investment-fund manager before Cole could buy him out and then disappeared from the public eye. The only contact he'd had from Max since his departure from Vegas was a CC: on a short email, sent to their family's lawyers, informing them that he would like his trust paid out in full on his thirty-fifth birthday. After receiving Max's email, Cole had hired a number of private investigators to track him down. To his surprise, they'd failed, finding neither hide nor hair of the playboy who'd apparently decided to step out of the spotlight as soon as he was fired. The weeks until Max's birthday were ticking down now, which was why Cole had decided to let Pru, who was currently studying to take the privateinvestigator exam in the fall, have a shot at it. A long shot on his part, but a possibly huge opportunity for Pru. One she was taking seriously, since it was just the kind of case she needed to kick off her post-showgirl career. After a week of trying to track down Max Benton from the one-bedroom apartment she shared with her brother, she'd decided to use her own limited funds to follow a hunch. Max, who had often been photographed with DJ Mike Benz in European nightclubs, would surely put in an appearance at his friend's very first stateside gig. However, showing up here had been only a hunch, and she knew that there was a good chance the security guard wasn't lying about Max not being up in the VIP area. But then again, why would the guy have gone so cold on her if Max Benton weren't up there? No, she thought, she'd definitely come to the right place. She could feel it in her gut. But how was she going to convince the mountain standing in front of her to let her through? The mountain, who was currently saying, "Time for you to move along, ma'am."Wow. Now he was calling her "ma'am"? That was past cold."Look," she said, leveling with him, "I know you have your orders, but—""Hallo, who are you?" someone interrupted before she could finish.Mike Benz appeared beside her in a ratty purple hoodie and a T-shirt with a panda on it. His clothes, paired with his tall, thin frame, made him look even younger than Jakey, her eighteen-year-old brother. But Pru knew from her research that despite his youthful appearance, he was the same age as her, twenty-nine.So at least she didn't feel like a shameless cradle robber when she turned on her old showgirl smile at full beam and said, "Hi! I'm Pru. I love your music."She limited herself to those three sentences and held her breath. She'd hoped that the simple act of introducing herself with a big smile and an emphatic compliment would have the same effect it did back when she actually made a game out of getting into VIP.It did.Mike Benz smiled back at her and said, "Would you like to come up?""Sure!" she said, her smile becoming even brighter. He offered her his arm, and with a sheepish look, the mountain unlatched the velvet rope before stepping aside to let them pass.Just like that she was in! Pru's heart beat in her throat as they came to the top of the stairs. Hoping hard that her gut had been right and that Max Benton really was there tonight."M.B.!" a voice boomed across the area.Mike Benz threw his arms in the air and yelled back "M.B.!" like a kid playing a game of Marco Polo.Pru had to work hard to keep a triumphant smile from breaking out across her face. She had bet right. Max Benton approached them, dressed in a white linen suit with a V-neck T-shirt underneath. His on-trend look, paired with intentionally scruffy black hair and at least three days' worth of beard growth, somehow managed to make him look as if he'd rolled out of bed and a high-fashion ad at the same time. It was easy for Pru to understand in that moment why women around the world had fallen at Max Benton's feet. Why, according to the nauseating amount of research she'd done on the Benton heir, he'd been dubbed the Ruiner in certain feminine circles. One reality starlet had claimed she wasn't able to date anyone for a year after spending a few weeks with Max. Pru remembered her tale with an inner grimace. Once you go Max, you never go back."I didn't know you were here," Mike Benz said to Max as they clasped hands and exchanged a one-armed hug. "Why didn't you text me?"Max threw him a lazy smile, his pale green eyes shining with their usual wicked gleam. "Figured you'd get up here sooner or later," he answered.Pru watched the exchange from her position on Mike Benz's arm. Max was so insanely good-looking, even more so in real life than in the many pictures of him floating around the internet. If not for the jagged imperfection of his nose, which had been broken a couple of times without proper resets, Max might have been too pretty. But as it was, the crooked nose on top of so much symmetry only made it that much harder for Pru not to stare at him, even though she was trying to play it cool.Max, however, didn't seem to have any problems keeping his eyes off her. He barely spared her a look while he and Mike Benz exchanged small talk about how Mike liked New Orleans. Pru was actually beginning to think that Max didn't remember her and she'd have to awkwardly reintroduce herself, when he said to Mike, "So you know Pru, too?"He still hadn't looked directly at her, Pru noticed."Ya, man, we met outside VIP," Mike Benz answered.Pru quickly rushed in then with her cover story. "One of the girls I used to dance with back in Vegas moved out to Miami and decided to have her bachelorette weekend here in New Orleans." This much was true—even if that bachelorette night had happened years ago, not tonight as Pru had insinuated."Anyway, I was pretty sure you were up here in the VIP area even though the guy downstairs kept saying you weren't." She squinched her face to further sell the story. "Trina's bachelorette weekend was wild, so I almost believed him. Like maybe I'd just been crazy, thinking it was you up here and not some other guy that maybe looked like you."She held her breath, hoping Max didn't see straight through her technically-true-but-not-really story.Max pegged her with a look, his eyes shrewd, as if he was deciding whether or not to believe her. But then he said, "No, it was me you saw, and I'm glad you decided to bring the party up here.""Me, too." She turned to give Mike Benz another one of her showgirl smiles. "Thanks, Mike!"Mike grinned down at her. "No problem. Any friend of the other M.B. is most definitely a friend of mine.""Oh, goody," she said, doing her best imitation of the coquette she used to be. "I love making new friends."She could sense Max watching her closely as she and Mike made flirty exchanges. This was another huge gamble. Openly flirting with someone else in order to get his attention. But from what she'd read, Max had a competitive streak a mile wide. In his twenties he'd drag raced on every continent except Antarctica. In his thirties, he'd been spotted at high-roller games with million-dollar stakes. And just a few weeks before Cole had cut him off, a story had surfaced about Max wagering the Benton New Orleans in a bet with another hotel heir about who could swim one hundred meters faster. Luckily he'd won that bet, considering he didn't have the authority to make that kind of wager in the first place. But in any case, Pru sensed the easiest way to engage Max was to play to his sense of competition. And apparently she was right.Max looped an arm around Pru's shoulders and said, "I've got a couple of bottles back at my table. Let's catch up, Pru."Then he nodded toward Mike Benz and said, "You can join us if you want."An hour later, Pru wasn't so sure who was scheming on whom. The three of them were sitting on a plush white couch, arced around a small table with a silver bucket full of ice and champagne bottles at its center. Max had his hand on her knee as he once again filled her glass with champagne. He'd yet to let her glass get more than half-empty. But as attentive as he'd been, he'd spent most of the night talking with Mike Benz about a hotel he was planning to build in New Orleans. He'd explained the boutique hotel would sit somewhere between its luxury and lower-tier counterparts. With an Old World Parisian aesthetic outside, and a modern European design inside, the planned hotel would also have a hot nightclub that would attract and cater to the many singletons and unmarried couples who flooded into New Orleans every weekend, looking to have fun. Apparently, Max wasn't as disconnected from the experience of the non-VIP nightclubber as she would have thought, because he painted a picture of a trendy and sophisticated hotel with prices within reach of people in their twenties who hadn't been born with silver spoons in their mouths.Pru could actually imagine herself going out of her way to stay at a place like that back when she'd been in her early twenties. It was also a very intriguing idea, coming from Max, since his hotel would probably be competing with both the Benton New Orleans and the planned Benton Inn New Orleans, which would be opening its doors in the fall. She didn't have to fake her interest in the conversation. In fact, she had to keep reminding herself to surreptitiously pour out half flutes of champagne whenever both men weren't looking (with a silent apology to whomever was in charge of cleaning the club's carpets at night's end). And by the time Max was done telling Mike Benz about his plans, both she and the DJ were leaning all the way forward.Max eventually asked Mike about his plans after his residency was through, and Mike confessed he didn't have any. By the time Mike's break was over, the two had all but made a formal deal for Mike Benz to be the first resident DJ at the hotel Max would be opening.Pru observed Max as he watched Mike Benz leave. Though he'd made it seem as if he was the one doing Mike a favor, he now wore a self-satisfied smile. And Pru began to suspect then that Max hadn't invited her over to his VIP table to just one-up Mike Benz. Rather, he'd been using her to achieve his ultimate goal. Getting Mike Benz to agree to a handshake deal. This gave Pru pause, because if she was reading the situation right, Max wasn't quite the useless ne'er-do-well he'd come off as in the online gossip blogs. In fact, she'd bet money Cole had no idea what his younger brother was up to.Her suspicions were confirmed when Max's easygoing smile disappeared as soon as Mike was out of earshot. "Planning to go squealing to my brother about this?" he asked Pru.Pru answered more frankly than she might have under normal circumstances. "I'm Sunny's best friend, not Cole's. I barely see him, and when I do, we're usually not talking hotel business.""That's not an answer," he pointed out.Pru lifted her eyebrows. Max was also quite a bit shrewder than she'd originally given him credit for. "Okay…" She set her glass of champagne down and turned toward him on the couch. "Are you saying you don't want me to tell your brother about your plans?"Max also set aside his glass. "What if I were saying that to you?" he asked."Then I'd say if you don't want me to tell him about your hotel, you can just ask me not to, instead of accusing me of being a tattletale."After giving her an incredulous look, Max said, "Fine, can you not tell Cole about this?""No problem," Pru answered, somehow managing to keep her voice light despite the raging headache she could feel coming on. Reacting in an outwardly negative fashion to the club's loud music wasn't exactly in line with the free-spirit party-girl persona she was trying to affect with Max."Hey," she said, turning her showgirl smile back on, despite the fact that her head was throbbing. "Want to get out of here?"

I'm glad they started communicating about their past and understood each others childhood. Gus was very interesting to me. I'm surprised by what was revealed near the end about him. I so agree with what Max stated : Never Say Never. That's what I always say when it comes to money. You never know when you're going to get hit with a rainy day. Each of them done what did to get what they wanted/needed. I'm glad the end was all about "The Real Thing" for them. hopefully Gus's story is next.

But she has proved me wrong again. I thought Cole and Sunny's story was the bomb, well Max and Pru's were two bombs. You will laugh, cry, get angry and need a fan or a cold drink of water for the sex scenes. There was mystery and twist in this story. I don't want to give anything away but I will say that this is a must read. I hope there is a story for Gus.

We as primates have struggled mightily during the past 85 million years to find and eat enough food for survival. Fortunately, every one of your ancestors was successful so that you might succeed in that same endeavor. However, today that survival is in jeopardy. Recently and suddenly, from an evolutionary standpoint, the problem of subsistence in “civilized” countries has inverted: we have plenty of food but are not making selections that lead to long-term survival. Our plant-based ancestral diets for which we have become genetically adapted have become animal-based. For thousands of millennia, primate nutrition happened while seeking a wide variety fruits and vegetables sufficiently energy-dense to supply our needed daily calories. Today we still seek energy-dense foods, but in the form of high fat animal products or sweet processed foods. Nutrient-dense foods, formerly our staples, are tolerated as side-dishes. Taste, the most primitive of our senses, over the eons existed for our survival (as all the other senses), that is, to deselect plants sufficiently bitter as likely toxic or non-digestible. With the expansion of our brain capacity, taste was joined by higher brain regions’ appreciation of flavor. The result is a demand for flavorful energy-dense foods. Every meal experience must “taste good”. Dietary patterns based on such flavorful energy-dense foods has lead to chronic inflammatory states with high morbidly and mortality in the Western world. This book suggests a return to our true ancestral dietary patterns, supplemented by what is known from the latest scientific research concerning nutritional health. It is clear that we have evolved to be quite versatile eaters and while we can eat a variety of foods, a whole-food varied plant-based diet is best for our long-term survival as healthy and happy primates. Following the high nutrient density to energy density ratio, we recommend a dietary emphasis on green vegetables, particularly leaves, followed by all colors of vegetables, beans/legumes, then underground storage organs followed by a modicum of grains, nuts, and seeds. Personal opinions have been kept to a minimum. Most of the information presented herein is from recent peer reviewed scientific sources. For improved readability, these have been collected at the end of the book for each chapter section and subsection.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. many Americans are in incredibly poor health by the time those “golden years” arrive By Jan Martin Over the last 100 years, we have extended life expectancy rates in this country dramatically with medical breakthroughs, miracle drugs, and improved surgical techniques. Unfortunately, many Americans are in incredibly poor health by the time those “golden years” arrive. Many of us are on multiple prescription drugs and have had one or more expensive surgeries, we’ve had illnesses with lengthy or incomplete rehabilitation. Our “long life” has become something to endure, not enjoy. Why?“The Ancestral Diet” answers this question and affirms the notion that “we are what we eat,” explaining in detail the why and the how. In the beginning chapters, this little book itself can seem “nutrient-dense but lacking in flavor,” but it is in fact eye opening and thought provoking; chock full of information that makes the WHO’s recent classification of red meat as a probable carcinogen, seem predictable and indisputable. The American Cancer Society has long recommended a diet that limits processed meat and red meat yet we continue to gorge. Authorities from the World Health Organization (WHO) to the American Heart Association (AHA) to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) have made recommendations for limiting our sugar consumption but the Center for Disease Control says that 78 million of us are obese. FTC efforts to develop voluntary, uniform nutrition standards for foods and drinks marketed to our children have been blocked by industry lobbyists. It is clearly up to us to thoroughly educate ourselves, make intelligent choices, and teach our children well.Read this book, watch Mark Bittman’s 2007 TED Talk, “What’s Wrong with What We Eat,” open your eyes and get healthy.

Although he wrote Gorilla Mindset with men in mind, many women are catching on, as they also want to live a more powerful life. By applying Gorilla Mindset to your life, you will improve your health and fitness, earn more money, and have stronger relationships. Your thinking will become clear. Your posture will improve. You will have more focus. People will respect you. There are chapters on routine, self-talk, frame, focus, state/mood, mindfulness, and body language and posture. Each chapter contains techniques, mindset shifts, and habits that can be applied to your life. For example, improving your self-talk will improve your state or mood. How you frame challenges in your life is also a matter of the language – or self-talk – you use. Getting in the moment improves your self-talk just as your self-talk helps you get into the moment. At the end of Gorilla Mindset you'll tie every concept together to live a life others don't even dare dream of. But you will dream of that life. You will live that life. Find out how to live life on your terms by applying Gorilla Mindset to your life today.

By Steffan The suggestions in this book simply work.I use it whenever a problem arises in my life.-One day I got three parking tickets.-One day I couldn't find my car for 30 minutes in an airport parking lot.-One day I was stressed waiting for my offer to get approved.-One day I hurt my shoulder very badly and was worried it would never be the same.-One day a close friend betrayed me.We all know stressful situations can creep in, they affect our breathing, our mood, our appetite, and even our digestion. The point is, in each of those cases the lessons in this book came to my mind and I was able to use the techniques taught to regain control of my emotions and tackle the problems with a clearer head. This is the first book I have read that tackles mindset in a non hippie esoteric manner.I recently went to a Gorilla Mindset Seminar to get to know Mike a bit better.I wanted to check his demeanor, his friends, his wife, and decide if this man is congruent with the claims he makes online. What I found was that he is even better in real life!He is the real thing, and he's a really NICE GUY despite all the trolling online!!He did not try to sell anything to us. Everyone there already had Gorilla Mindset. He paid for the venue out of pocket and charged us nothing. He spent the entire time going over the techniques in Gorilla Mindset and answering our questions.Believe it or not Mike is actually trying to help people!I highly suggest this book to anyone looking for concrete and practical steps to get better control of their emotions.

This book failed to live up to expectations in 3 major ways:1). Unoriginal: Very little of the advice in the book is that new or original, and a lot of it is extremely generic. For example, the chapter on money talks about investing in index funds, the chapter on weight loss talks about eating natural foods and minimizing starch and dairy, and the chapter on self-talk talks about being positive. This is all good advice, but as a compulsive reader, investor, and fitness fanatic, this is extremely basic (all of it is probably the advice you would get on page 1 if you picked up a book on any of those respective topics)2). Lazy/Minimal Effort: Many of the recommendations in the book were copied almost word for word from "Danger and Play." I noticed this especially on the chapters about posture, but all chapters were guilty of this to some degree3). Poor Attention to Detail/Idea Development: I like what Mike did with the structure of the book (touching on a number of disparate elements and connecting them to mindset), but the way he developed each idea was extremely poor. Most books I found groundbreaking would bring up some controversial ideas, develop each in a lot of detail, then connect this to a new idea in a series of logical steps ("So Good They Can't Ignore You" by Cal Newport is a great example), but this book gave a number of half baked ideas, provided minimal evidence, then jumped on to something new. A lot of the advice were things prefaced with "try this, some people say it works", or "I used to do this, had mixed results, but hey, why not do it yourself?". Scientific research was minimal and almost laughable (Mike brought on "experts" and simply had them verify all of his opinions-he never actually challenged his ideas). As such, this book gave me little faith that Mike really knew what he was writing about or that his ideas would work for meIn sum, I found the book pretty disappointing in a number of ways, although there is definitelysome useful information here (the stuff on supplementation about NAC and ZMA for example or the information on posture). I gave 3 stars as I respect Mike and don't want to label this a 1 or a 2, but I do think he could have done much better, and as is, you could get much better info by picking up any basic book on any of the various elements that "Gorilla Mindset" addresses-James

This book will make you a better man.Long version: three years ago I found myself divorced, overweight, and directionless. Mike Cernovich's blog, Danger and Play, was vital reading about topics like fitness, game for introverts, juicing, posture, money, and generally living your life to the fullest extent. His blog has had an incredibly positive impact on my life in terms of mental focus, fitness, freedom, and the understanding that you can live the life you've always dreamed, if you have the courage and skills to do it.What makes Mike different? Cernovich is not a self proclaimed "alpha male" or anonymous blogger complaining about modern women. He is the man you look at and say "Wow, I want to be more like him." Mike is fit, well traveled, articulate, and never shy about speaking his mind, even if his opinion might hurt a feeling or two. He is one of the few people whose advice and input I actually value. This morning I woke up and was excited to find Gorilla Mindset on my Kindle. I figured that I would read through a chapter or two and go on with my day. I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting from cover to cover. (let me be clear about something - reading this book cover to cover in one sitting will not maximize it's value. It's one you'll probably read several times, make notes on, and re-read again and again. Can't wait till it comes out in paperback. It's one that is going to be dogeared, written all over, and referred to quite a bit.)Gorilla Mindset blew me away. Is is an excellent, practical instruction manual on how to get the most of out life. It's definitely not Danger & Play repackaged into a book. It's a book I will read several times.Mike hit the nail on the head when he said that this is a book for you, and if you're not willing to invest the time into going through the exercises, it's going to be a waste. The book touches on a variety of topics - mindset, fitness, posture, money, and then goes into detail about how to practically improve upon each subject. Boiled down, Gorilla Mindset is an instruction manual about developing the skills and habits necessary to live a life that you are in control of.Gorilla Mindset is incredibly practical. For instance, one of the best pieces of advice that I needed to hear was saying "no" to everything. I constantly agree to everything, and then overextend myself, causing me to miss gym sessions, work until 2am, and generally putting everyone else's needs over my own. So, today instead of hanging out with my friends because it's Saturday, I decided to stay in, read, cook, lift weights, and clean my office. I feel better for it. Tomorrow I will be diving much deeper into the application.Exceptional, exceptional book. There's nothing out there on the market like it. Mike continues to inspire through example.

I had bought several less than useful books previously and was frightened I'd never find anything to help me! I was desperate for good information and feeling more miserable than I had ever felt! Then I read "From Tyrant to Friend" and that changed! It helped me better understand what was going on with me and showed me a road map to recovery. It put my tinnitus into perspective and illustrated the stages I'd go through as my tinnitus improved! It gave me hope, reminded me I wasn't alone, and gave me a starting place to work back from! "From Tyrant to Friend" was the first ray of hope when I was at my lowest! Julian Cowan Hill is the tinnitus whisperer! He was able to overcome his own tinnitus and has helped me! Hang in there! It gets better! I highly recommend this book to anyone who suffers from tinnitus!

This book contains his story and specific exercises that allow the nervous system to relax and shut off the noise. I have reduced mine to practically not noticeable. I am confident I can completely let go. He also a youtube channel that is excellent and you can see almost everything that is in the book for free. Please check it out. I have gone from extremely hopeless and so depressed to empowered and in control. *** I am editing this a few months after writing the original review. Just wanted to update that with a little more work and effort I am now farther along the road to recovery and am going in and out of silence. . . complete silence, when it does switch on it's very faint. I am not talking about habituation. I truly hear nothing for quite a few hours daily. It is leaving my body and feels sooooo good. I believe my tinnitus was stress induced. (Cross-country relocation, gestational diabetes, new baby- 3 little ones under 3) but Julian makes clear that the cause does not matter. It might be stress; it might be anxiety; it might be an ototoxic drug; it might be exposure to loud noise, but the fact is the nervous system has been overstimulated and is responding by listening out too acutely. You are too switched on. I also read somewhere in my research of this condition that approximately 50% of people who seek help for their tinnitus have an already diagnosed anxiety disorder. It's something to consider. I would like to leave some specific information on what has helped me so others may benefit. I am a busy young mother of 3 small, beautiful girls. It was hard to fit relaxation exercises into my day. At night my husband puts the girls to bed which gives me about 30 minutes of extra time in the evening.I usually either take a hot bath, do yoga or some other relaxation or meditation technique. The two I use most are:relaxation yoga with Ashely Sky Litecky:[...]Relaxation Hypnosis with David Fairweather:[...]I have also been trying to eat healthier and eliminate sugary foods from my diet. I am not perfect by any means, but believe this plays a roll as well. I truly want to help people who have this condition. It was absolutely terrifying for me at first. I have almost achieved complete remission. I also have looked into the work of a German doctor: Hans Greuel. His work is poorly, poorly translated but I know he offers some video therapy on youtube for free also. He is of the same opinion that the ability calm the central nervous system is the key. He also claims that Meniere's Disease and Sudden Deafness Syndrome are in the same category and curable as well. If you speak German I'm sure you could find out more.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. excellent Book By Donna M. O'brien This truly gave me inspiration to delve into the subject of my own tinnitus. The author gave me hope and motivation. thank you!

Tips on how to love someone with Aspergers is also very relevant By Shelly Ronald Asperger's is an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, alongside restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. But unlike other autism spectrum, people with Asperger syndrome still have linguistic and communication skills, and this is discussed in detail in chapter 2 of this book. Also, the discussion on how to understand a adult with Aspergers is clearly written, and the points discussed are though provoking. The last section, Tips on how to love someone with Aspergers is also very relevant. All in all, this is a great guide and reference book for those who wants to understand Asperger.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Helpful By Eddy Lang Great book. I gained a more specific technique in dealing with a person with Asperser Syndrome. The book was also able to give, the more detailed symptoms in diagnosing this disorder, and that is very essential, This book is very informative and helpful for those people who have a family member with Asperger Syndrome. Lastly, this book was able to give the proper guidelines in treating them right with a lot of understanding and patience with their unwanted characteristic.I learned something new about the book, well written and very concise.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Very good and informative book! By Tetay If you suspect your child has Asperger's or just want to learn more about the syndrome, this is a great book to start with. Very in depth, easy to read and understand and full of information about Asperger's. I would recommend to anyone who is curious or just wants to learn more about it. There are so many people in this world that suffer from this and reading this will give you more understanding of how to interact with them and help them. Very good read!

Nothing beats a sexy Jamaican vacation! Alaine Winters returns to her homeland to tend to her injured mother, but she's not against a little island loving, should the opportunity arise! Just not with her former crush, Craig Holt! Alaine wasn't looking to be bogged down with a commitment, and the Craig Holt she remembered was the forever-type. But in the three years since their one-night, Craig has changed. Yes, their chemistry is still off the charts, but Craig is suddenly relationship-shy. Which suits Alaine just fine! They fall headlong into a steamy, tropical affair, careful not to let their mothers, who happen to be best friends, find out. In keeping with the no-string-attached, friends-with-benefits theme, Alaine keeps her dating options open with another hunky male, Omar. But as the affair with Craig progresses, she tries to ignore the feelings of disappointment that Craig appears to be completely unbothered by the knowledge of Omar. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. a wonderful portrait of 1800s life in America By N. Ferguson R. Dr. Chase was a traveling physician who compiled this book of "recipes and information for everybody" including a wide array of information and home remedies for families. At the time it was published, individual receipes to cure a sick horse or sick child were quite expensive. Dr. Chase's book of 800 recipes for health remedies, drinks, livestock cures, etc. was a bargain and a mainstay in households across the continent.Sections include:Merchant and Grocer DepartmentSaloon DepartmentMedical DepartmentTanner,Shoe, & Harness Maker DepartmentPainter DepartmentBlacksmith DepartmentTinner DepartmentGunsmith DepartmentJeweler DepartmentFarrier DepartmentCabinet-maker DepartmentBarber DepartmentBaker/Cooking DepartmentDomestic DepartmentMiscellaneous DepartmentThe information included is wildly varied and fascinating! Dr. Chase even advocates humane treatment of animals (includes illustrations for saving injured horses), instructs young people in how they can be successful, etc. etc. etc.Just a wonderful book of frontier/19th century wisdom! I have the 38th edition, which was published in 1866.

Smith In this short novel we are introduce to Tania, she is a scared and quite 15yr old teenager that is being beaten and neglected by her drug addict mother. Until one day she meets street king Nico and he changes her life forever. In some wierd way Nico was twisted but being around Tania soften his heart and he fell in love with her and wanted to give her the world. But trouble and stress puts their relationship to the test, and with close enemies that they never knew was among them really takes this couple on a rollcoaster ride.I actually was not going to get this book because it didnt have any reviews, but I am glad I did, This author touch on a subject that alot of teen face today with a parent being on drugs, being bullied in schools, and kids hoping for a better future to get away from the abuse and just want love. I can wait for part 2. I hope we dont have to wait long.

Ashenee and her Cree people lived on the land, following their old traditions. It was a life quite apart from the modern world. Their community was deeply hidden within Canada's boreal forests, far removed from the problems associated with other Cree First Nations' communities: alcoholism, violence, poverty and discontent. But what her people did not know was that there was an even deeper problem: hundreds of aboriginal women had been reported as missing. The people of those Nations made their cry but it went ignored. Many of those missing women had been murdered…the whereabouts of others remained unknown.

Imagine a place so remote it has escaped evolution. Imagine prehistoric footprints leading back in time--imagine they were made yesterday. Stranded in the African savanna, paleoanthropologist Ken Lauder encounters the inconceivable--a protohuman boy from a breed thought to have been extinct for two million years. From this irresistible "what if" premise, Popescu blends fascinating scientific speculation with scientific fact to explore the mysteries of how we become "human." 4 cassettes.

Almost Adam: A Novel, by Petru Popescu

Amazon.com Review In an unexplored Kenyan savanna, a paleoanthropologist finds a boy whose physical characteristics match those of the "missing link" and realizes that he's discovered a place that has escaped the normal evolutionary processes. Soon the modern world threatens to encroach on his bond with the boy as a poacher tracks them down and another anthropologist threatens to steal the discovery. Their only hope is to disappear into the forest with the boy's tribe.

From Library Journal Ken Lauder has made one of the greatest scientific discoveries of all time, but he may not live to announce it. On a remote Kenyan savanna and mountainside he has found evidence of existing protohumans, perhaps the long-sought "missing link" in humankind's evolutionary chain. But Kenya is in political turmoil and on the verge of civil war-which for Ken may be the least of his problems. He has been abandoned on the deadly savanna with neither supplies nor weapons and is pursued by murderous thugs who for unknown reasons already have attempted to kill him. Are they simply poachers into whose terrain he has intruded, or have they been sent by the government? Or have they been hired by a world-famous scientist with a reputation for appropriating what others have found first? Befriended by an eight-year-old boy of the protohuman tribe, Ken, if he is to survive, will have to live as one of them. A riveting thriller and an accessible crash course in paleoanthropology, this novel by the author of Amazon Beaming (LJ 8/91) also grapples with the fundamental question of what it means to be human. Highly recommended. [See the review of John Darnton's Neanderthal, p. 83, for another fictional account of the discovery of primitive folk surviving today.-Ed.]-Charles Michaud, Turner Free Library, Randolph, Mass.--Charles Michaud, Turner Free Library, Randolph, Mass.Copyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Booklist What results from crossing Arthur Conan Doyle's Lost World with Jane Goodall's chimpanzee observations? Monstrous popularity--or so the publisher is gambling, with a six-figure print run. A fantasy containing the collision of the present with the prehistoric, Popescu's tale justifies the risk. Popescu invents a plateau in East Africa frozen in evolutionary stasis. Wonder not how it remained undiscovered in an age of satellite surveillance: Popescu's protagonists, American Ken Lauder and Kenyan Ngili Ngiamena, suspend their disbelief, and we must follow. The two stumble upon the place in the course of excavating hominid fossils, one of which seems to be only 10,000 years old. Returning to Nairobi to figure out this problem, their activities attract the interest of various parties, most of them nefarious. The eminence grise of paleoanthropology, Cyril Anderson, resents the upstarts' intrusion into his bailiwick, while Ngili's family becomes embroiled in the underworld of Kenyan politics. These subplots percolate while Lauder goes back to the dig area to pursue his mounting suspicion that australopithecine still lives. Slowly revealing what Lauder discovers on the plateau, Popescu teases and pleases by stages in suspensefully dramatized, exhilarating speculations about the appearance and behavior of the protohumans. He builds to a crescendo when the subplotters finally converge on the plateau in a fiery, bullet-crossed conclusion. A wild encounter of human ancestors and descendants that will captivate legions. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. A good start By A Customer This is a promising work from someone new to the Anglo-Saxon literature. Petru Popescu is Romanian, and therefore his style and language are not as polished as expected from your average American author. His Latin lyricism translates oddly at times, and his descriptions are long and detailed. Character developing is uneven, but this is a minor sin compared to other aspects you will find worthwile.Overall, it's a good book, and shows an great interest in social studies. This twist brings new life to an idea as old as Arthur Conan Doyle's "Lost World". Give it a chance - if you want more than other (similarly-priced) brainless slam-bang, you might like it.

11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Outstanding novel, kept me on edge throughout! By A Customer I found this book on a clearance rack $3!I was on vacation and wanted a distraction,so I thought it was a good deal.Little did I know what Mr.Popescu had in store for me.This book is captivating for anyone with a love of mans early history. The sheer amount of research that he put into this novel must be applauded.I look forward to wraping myself up in his next novel.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. An Unexpected Find By A Customer I bought this book two years ago at a "dollar store" during an ice storm which left us without electricity for two weeks. There wasn't much to do so I bought this book thinking it probably wouldn't be too great; I mean I spent three bucks on it at the dollar store. But, I hoped it would ward off the boredom. I didn't get to start reading it until a month ago and was I ever surprised. This is a great book! As the last reviewer stated, it's a great way to teach science through fiction. I had never put too much thought into how humans evolved. I have even found myself watching The Discovery Channel to find out more about the protohumans.
