About the Author Daniel O'Gorman is Associate Lecturer in English at Oxford Brookes University, UK. He has published articles on post-9/11 fiction in Textual Practice and Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction, as well as multiple book chapters on Salman Rushdie.

O'Gorman begins with some US-centric works before branching into works that are set more in Iraq and Pakistan.O'Gorman is particularly interested in the narratives that these works of fiction present, ranging from unaddressed grief in Chronic City and Teju Cole's Open City to the fundamental ambivalence of identity. What, after all, does it mean to be a citizen of Pakistan? You may not share ethnic, linguistic, religious, or even cultural ties with your fellow 182M other Pakistani citizens. So is it just a label?This applies too, of course, to conflicts in a multicultural world, and O'Gorman includes a reference to Dave Eggers' micro-story "On what it means when a crowd in a faraway nation takes a soldier representing your nation and shoots him." Well.
