This collection of prose poems and flash fictions imaginatively explores moments of hesitation and celebration. In the tradition of the Latin American microcuento as practiced by Julio Cortázar, Eduardo Galeano, and Augosto Monterroso, these short prose pieces are at turns fabulistic and true to life, making hard statements on unemployment, race, and obsession through characters out of fairy tales and religion as well as history and nature. Through persona and personal revelation, these pieces present the storyteller as world-maker with all the darkness and joy that can be accessed through language.

By LMKaminski First, disclosure: Jose Angel Araguz has been one of my favorite poets since I read his debut chapbook (The Wall, Tiger's Eye Press, 2012), and his second one (Corpus Christi Octaves, Flutter Press, 2014), fully met my already-high expectations, so I had even higher expectations for Reasons (Not) to Dance (FutureCycle Press, 2015).I'm embarrassed (and delighted!) to admit I underestimated; the pieces in this third chapbook still stunned me on the first read. And the second. And the third. I had reason to expect fine poems I could enjoy again and again, poems that made me buy extra copies of the book to share with other poets, poems that made me want to write poems -- that had been my experience with both of his previous books, and this third one does not disappoint in that regard. But the thirty-two prose poems in Reasons (not) to Dance demand further attention: they are poems, and somehow more than poems -- they may also be koans, or parables. After three readings, I still feel like there's much more to discover and contemplate here, so I'm embarking again, today July-01, with the intention of reading one and only one of these each day, and letting each one sink in. My reading list is booked through August-01. I'm exploring.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I really enjoyed the part that talked about lucid dreaming By Charles J. I have always been intrigued by dreams and remember reading about Freud's theories,so I found this book very fascinating. I really enjoyed the part that talked about lucid dreaming. It made me think of the movie, Inception, which was mind-boggling. There's a lot of really interesting information in this book that tries to get to the bottom of exactly why it is that we dream. Very good read.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. ok By customer The book is only about very common dreams and objects or stories. Is this a flaw? Depends ...it's not a long book and it doesn't promise you'll read about every little detail. So if you're fine with this, it's a good book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Dream on! By Johnnytor My interest in dream interpretation started back when I had a dream that I was flying above an old wooden bridge. I felt very light and calm when I was “flying” and after I woke up, I told my fiance about it and she said I should find myself a book about dreams. I have 2 books about dream interpretation but this book stood out. There are guides in the book that I find very helpful in keeping track of my dreams. This book gave a more rational interpretation of my dreams and for that I easily understood the meaning behind it. There’s more on dreams that mere collection of experiences…it reflects the person’s inner thoughts or sub-conscious that most of us don’t even have a clue about.

Ten years ago, Aaron Wethers saved Rebecca Cromwell from drowning on spring break. Enamored by her sexy savior, Rebecca fell short of getting the hard-edged executive interested in turning his role of practical hero into a romantic one. Now his Caribbean resort is hosting Rebecca's fashion collection, and she has two weeks to show Aaron how much she's grown up. Yet instead of enjoying revenge, she's falling hard for the real but enigmatic man behind her long-ago infatuation.

Aaron hasn't forgotten the vibrant young student who propositioned him that night. He's left breathless by the self-assured, stunning beauty she's become. Under a blue island sky, they discover a deep, searing connection. But when a series of dangerous events threaten to sabotage her show, can he be the hero she needs now?

The luscious, exotic island of St. James boasted white sand beaches, towering coconut and breadfruit trees and water so blue it put the sky to shame. Red Beacon Villa Resorts sat on the far north side, away from the island's bustling capital and other major cities. The resort was an international destination that catered to an array of guests and had done so for the past fifty years. Its majestic main house stood proud and welcoming. But while outside a soft Caribbean breeze toyed with the palm trees that surrounded the house's tall pillars and gleaming windows, a storm raged within."She said what?" Aaron Wethers asked, glaring at the man who faced him. A little green lizard sat outside on the windowsill, seeming to look at the two men who sat in the office. One man sat behind a large oak desk decorated with intricate, inlaid gold trim. He was considerably younger than the second man and nearly twice his size, and his steady gaze seemed to make the second man sink lower in his chair. The second man was Harvey Clark, a name he'd hated since he was a boy, but he'd never had the courage to change it, so he preferred to go by the initials H.C. Harvey wiped the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief and fought not to chew his nails. It was a nervous habit he'd finally conquered in his late forties. The room wasn't hot, but under Wethers's stare, he felt like an ant under a microscope. He'd practiced what he was going to say all yesterday and even this morning before the meeting, but nothing could have prepared him for the anger that flashed in his boss's penetrating dark gaze.Wethers was a man both respected and, at times, feared. He was the kind of man who could make anyone feel small with just a glance. Not due to arrogance, although as a child of privilege it was almost expected, or because he was a bully—he was a fair man and loyal to his staff. Harvey liked him. He'd worked for his father and was honored to work with the son. But the younger Wethers was a man you didn't want to disappoint, and one you certainly didn't want to make angry. Harvey lightened his tone, attempting not to make the news sound as bad as it really was. "Your sister needs your help."Aaron fell silent, then slowly blinked with the ease of a lazy lion. "What the hell do I know about hosting a fashion show?" he finally asked."You don't have to know anything. That's not what she needs you for.""What, then?""She thinks someone is trying to sabotage the show. A box of props went missing.""And we had a new shipment sent. I know. I had a friend of mine take care of replacing the items. I'd hardly call that sabotage."Harvey wiped his neck, then glanced outside and saw Wethers's son, Brandon, looking through the bushes. "But your sister is nervous because other things have gone wrong.""My sister tends to dramatize issues." Wethers kept his gaze focused on the magnificent view of the ocean from his office window."Right now she's in the process of leaving the island with three of her models who've developed rashes all over their bodies.""An allergic reaction?""She thinks someone tampered with their makeup. She's taking several samples with her to get tested.""She could have had someone else do that.""Your mother said—"Wethers lifted his brows. "You're actually going to bring my mother into this, too?"Harvey silently swore, knowing he'd made a wrong move. Hitting Wethers with both his mother and sister was not a wise strategy. "She agrees with your sister. They both think your involvement is essential."Aaron rubbed his chin. "And you're just telling me this now? My sister couldn't tell me this yesterday?""The makeup tampering—"Aaron held up his hand. "Alleged tampering.""—really concerns her. She wouldn't have bothered you otherwise," Harvey finished, then glanced outside again, unable to hold Wethers's steady gaze, and saw Brandon talking to one of the groundskeepers, who listened to something he said, then shook his head. What was the boy looking for? "H.C.?"Harvey turned sharply to him. "Yes?""What are you looking at?""Your son."Wethers's tone sharpened. "What about my son?"Harvey shook his head, sorry he'd mentioned it. Wethers had enough to think about, and Harvey didn't want to worry him needlessly. It was probably nothing. Brandon was a good kid and didn't usually get into trouble. "Nothing. Sorry, I—I just saw him run past." He folded his damp handkerchief and pressed it to his forehead again.Wethers narrowed his eyes. "What's got you so nervous?"Harvey shrugged. "I'm not nervous." He adjusted his position in the large overstuffed chair.Wethers narrowed his eyes a fraction more. "You believe her, don't you?""These incidents don't seem like accidents, especially the last one."Aaron shrugged. "Two mishaps aren't—""Three.""Excuse me?""Actually, there have been three mishaps. These two were just the latest. The first one involved the digital file for the event. It somehow got corrupted, but fortunately there was a backup.""Hmm.""She really sounded upset on the phone about what's happening."Aaron groaned. "I hate this. You know my plan was to stay as far away as possible over these next several days while our resort is overrun with overindulged, self-interested parasites."Harvey held out his hands. "I know you had a bad experience with models—""Bad? Would you call the sinking of the Titanic merely bad? The stock market crash of 1929 a mere miscalculation?"Harvey sighed. "I'm sorry. I know how bad…I mean awful—" he quickly corrected "—it was for you. But that was more than nine years ago. This isn't about vanity. I've seen some of what they're putting together and it's really beautiful, and the people I've met have been very nice. We're dealing with professionals, and I'll help as much as I can, but I think your sister's concern shouldn't be taken lightly."Aaron slowly stood to his feet. "You're a good man, H.C." Aaron walked around the desk, then leaned against it with his arms folded. "I love my sister, but she has a habit of causing trouble, and my mother indulges her. But maybe there is something to this. When is my mother coming?"Harvey nervously cleared his throat, wishing Wethers would return to his seat. He hated having to look up at him. "Your—your mother?""Yes, my mother. This is right up her alley. If she's as concerned as my sister, she'll love to be here and make sure everything is spectacular. She's been a fashion hound since I was a kid. She'll use this opportunity to indulge her personal hobby. I don't care if she wants to come and boss me around a bit while I look into what's going on."Harvey unfolded his damp handkerchief and wiped his forehead, his cheeks and his neck, then crumpled it in his fist. This was the news he didn't want to deliver. "That's the problem."Aaron stilled. "What is?""Your mother needs you to be in charge.""Me? Why?""She broke her ankle while vacationing in Switzerland and won't be able to be here, either."Wethers looked out the window at the swaying palm trees and said in a low voice, "How convenient.""It doesn't sound very convenient to me."Wethers shifted his gaze back to Harvey. "You missed the ring of sarcasm. I'll try to be clearer next time." He tapped a finger against his lips and said in a quiet voice, "I wonder what those two are up to?""I really think your sister's frightened.""Then why didn't she tell me directly?""She didn't think you'd believe her. And this event is very important to her. This new designer is making waves around the globe. Red Beacon Villa Resorts will make a name for itself hosting the Cromwell Collection.""I don't care what his name is—""Her. Her name is Rebecca Cromwell," Harvey continued, ignoring Aaron's obvious boredom with the topic.Aaron stared at him for a long moment, making it clear he didn't care.Harvey swallowed. He hated when Wethers pinned him with that penetrating look. "I just thought you should know.""Tell me.""Tell you what?""What you really think. Should I be concerned?""I honestly don't know," Harvey said, relieved that at least that was the truth. "There are a lot of people involved in this event—volunteers, caterers, photographers, the stage crew, the stylists. Mistakes are bound to happen.""You're giving me excuses, not an opinion. What do you really think?""I think that if what Candace believes is true, we have a serious problem because things seem to be escalating. The corrupted file and lost props were an annoyance, but tampering with the model's makeup makes things more dangerous. Only the top three models were affected, and they were to be the key draw for the event, since one of them is a local girl. If anything else goes wrong, it's possible we'll have to cancel.""I'm not going to let that happen. We may have lost three days, but we have eleven days left.""Yes, sir," Harvey said, feeling his heart cheer. He knew Wethers would do whatever it took to save the show."I want to meet with security in an hour.""Yes." Harvey nodded, then left the room, wiping his forehead again when his phone rang. "Hello?""What does he think?" Candace Wethers said.Harvey lowered his voice. "You should have told him yourself.""You know I couldn't. Was he angry?""Yes, at first, then he said he'll look into it.""Did you tell him about Rebecca?""Only briefly. I thought it best to focus on the show. I don't think he'll believe she's the one being targeted. Besides, there's no proof.""I know, but I just have a bad feeling about this. I think whoever is trying to sabotage the show is trying to hurt her.""You think her life's in danger?"Candace sighed. "I really don't know. It doesn't make sense, but I have a horrible feeling that Rebecca could get hurt in more ways than one.""Do you think perhaps we should reschedule or cancel the show?""No," she said quickly. "Don't even think that. I know that Aaron can do this.""Are you sure you know what you're doing?"Candace laughed in a way that made Harvey nervous. "I always know what I'm doing."Aaron studied the lizard sunning on his window-sill. "If it were just Candace and my mother I wouldn't care much, but it's not like H.C. to worry," he said, talking to the creature. "I can't have that, but Candace knew I wanted to stay out of this fashion thing." Was she faking this crazy story about sabotage? No, it would be too easy to verify. And she wouldn't leave a key event, like a high-profile fashion show, just to annoy him. Although he wouldn't put much past her. She liked to get her way and thought his life was dull. Was this her way of adding some spice? The lizard looked at him briefly, then darted away. Aaron rested his hands on the window frame and looked out at the ocean. Was it wrong to want a quiet, simple life? His sister always wanted more. More friends, more excitement, more fun. That's why she trotted across the globe while he stayed on St. James, raising his son. She was the creative one in the family. She was the one who loved fashion and art. She was beautiful, reckless, changeable and irresistible. He'd idolized her so much as a child that, as a grown man, he'd married a woman similar to her, and that had been a disaster. His marriage to Ina Margarita Sheldon had shown him just how much he and his sister were dissimilar. He was practical and rational and would never change, although his sister continued to try to encourage him to do so. He remembered their conversation last month as they sat on the veranda of the main house, where he and his son lived. His mother and sister each had their own separate small three-bedroom chalet, located several hundred feet away from his residence, but Candace always liked to stop by to chat, scold or tease him, depending on her mood."You can do better," she said, nibbling on a fresh slice of melon. A large pink pinwheel hat shaded her face."What are you talking about?" Aaron asked as he watched his sister make her way through the plate full of fruit."Mary, the new woman you're seeing."Aaron shook his head and speared a mango cube. "Her name is Martha Banyan.""And she's a librarian.""She's a teacher." He pointed his fork at her. "I knew I shouldn't have said anything.""I'm glad you did. I would have found out anyway. You know news travels fast on this island. I just know you can do better."Aaron set his fork down, no longer interested in eating. "I thought you'd be impressed.""Impressed by what? Plain, boring, dull—""She's pretty and sweet.""I wasn't talking about how she looks. I was talking about her clothes.""Not all women are interested in fashion like you, or can afford to change their wardrobe every season."Candace made a face. "There's no need to exaggerate."Aaron grinned. "I thought I was being conservative."Candace rolled her eyes and swung her foot. "She's just not the right one for you."Aaron sat back and folded his arms, trying to keep his tone neutral, although his sister's criticism bothered him. "I thought you'd at least be happy for me. You're the one who's been pressuring me to start dating again.""Settling for the first woman who said yes was not what I meant."Aaron frowned. "I'm not settling.""She's everything Ina isn't.""Exactly." He speared a large slice of pineapple with his fork."You shouldn't sound so proud of it." Candace waved her fork at him before she stabbed another melon slice. "You're going to get bored with her. You're a lot wilder than you think, little brother. Remember, you've got the blood of a pirate running through you."

A real St. James pirate saves the day over and over again. Who can ask for more. I loved HC, his character was the best. Kelli should have gotten arrested and Candace (Aaron's Sister) should have gotten more than half her salary cut for the deviousness she caused. Read the story and figure out for yourself.

Sign of Redemption tells the story of a Richie Harrison, an innocent CPA who lands behind bars in a Texas prison--the unwitting “wheelman” in an unexpected armed robbery. Harrison falls in love with Elizabeth McKenna, a lawyer there to help Harrison’s deaf friend, and thoughts of her--and the life he’s lost--begin to obsess him. He escapes, on horseback and across a raging river, and finds safety with a drug-dealing family while scheming to win his love. To woo her, Harrison drags McKenna on a destructive journey that transforms him into the criminal he never imagined he’d become. From the book: When I first got sent down, I thought about escaping every day, and every day I thought of the bullet that would pierce my back and exit through my breastbone in a bloody spray. I thought of myself tumbling out of a dead run, my legs buckling, my face hitting the pavement. Maybe I’m just a coward if all it takes to make a coward is a vivid imagination. But I wasn’t here long before I found out what it sounded like when the blood left the body in gurgling rushes.

By Itsjustgigi Once I started reading the book, I couldn't put it down. A story of how a few bad decisions can lead to a complete life derailment. It's a story of prison life, escape, love and consequences. The characters in the book are so real, so vivid that even after weeks of reading the book, I still think of them often. A book certainly worth a read!

A skillful and viscerally eerie portrait of obsession By Texasbooklover FICTION/SUSPENSELisa TrowSign of RedemptionTexas Review Press, 978-1680030303, paperback, 240 pgs, $18.95June 4, 2015Richie Harrison is a prisoner at Huntsville, ten years into a sentence for armed robbery—a first offense—when he meets Elizabeth McKenna, attorney for Deep Eddy, one of Harrison’s fellow convicts. Harrison claims innocence, claims he’s “forced to live like a slave, a subhuman thing,” but he’s convinced that he’s made a spiritual connection with McKenna, that she sees him as a unique individual, and he’s been “resurrected.”Soon after this meeting, two of Harrison’s friends die violently in the prison and he takes advantage of lax supervision while on a prison farm work crew to escape. Harrison gets a ride from Giddy, the gay nephew of the local drug kingpin, and quickly and much too easily slips into this crowd, doing odd jobs and enforcement for Giddy’s uncle. After proving his trustworthiness, Harrison is sent on errands to Austin, where McKenna lives, and the stalking begins. Soon he and Giddy move to Austin to operate a storefront for fraudulent tax returns, and Harrison’s obsession with McKenna escalates out of control.Sign of Redemption is the first novel from Lisa Trow, a journalist, poet and former creative writing teacher in Texas prisons. The speed and ease of Harrison’s assimilation into a criminal life after his escape from Huntsville is curious—did prison unhinge him, was the affinity always there, or did he simply have no other choices? However, there were warnings of his obsession with McKenna immediately; Harrison imagines, on the day he met her in prison, her husband and musing that his “days with her are numbered, and I smiled upon him, knowing the three of us would one day know that no matter who he was, I was the better man.”Trow’s characters are individuals with backstories that believably inform their present actions and motivations. Harrison is particularly complex, his family history, pathology and sense of entitlement gradually coming to the fore. His devolution as his obsession with McKenna deepens is a skillful and viscerally eerie portrait of a twisted, tangled mind descending into madness. There is much humor in Sign of Redemption: both a black humor, as when Harrison refers to another prisoner as the “short, fat comic book-reading fratricide on E wing” and a lighter touch, when Giddy observes of hipster Austin: “These people got whimsy out the ass.” Trow is also capable of an arresting turn of phrase. Before Harrison’s escape from prison he despairs that he’s forgetting what McKenna looks like, that she would “move from woman to abstraction and from abstraction to muscle memory when, in random moments, my heart might recall the jolt she once gave it.”Original and unexpected plot twists keep the action moving briskly. Unfortunately, Trow’s plot gets away from her in the last quarter of the book and the conclusion is both disappointing and a stretch of the imagination. The title is misleading—I’m still looking for a sign of redemption for Harrison. But this is a promising debut, and Trow’s sophomore effort will deserve a look.Originally published in Lone Star Literary Life.

Ina Pinkney—the beloved restaurateur known affectionately as the “Breakfast Queen”—has been feeding Chicago for more than 30 years. When she closed her namesake restaurant’s doors in 2013, it headlined news across the Midwest. Now, the favorite dishes that thousands came to love at Ina's are showcased in the first paperback edition of her newly retitled book, Ina's Kitchen: Taste Memories and Recipes from the Breakfast Queen. Ina first self-published this book in hardcover in 2014, and it has already sold thousands of copies with minimal bookstore distribution. Ina's Kitchen is part cookbook part memoir, collecting 39 of Ina’s favorite recipes with stories from her life. From milestone moments and warm memories to the “truth” about owning a restaurant, readers will gain a deeper understanding of one of Chicago’s best-known culinary icons. Ina views her life as a recipe, and the book’s chapters reflect that notion. From “Ingredients” and “Preparation” to “Clean Up,” readers will come to understand what inspired and drove Ina’s love of food—and her culinary success. Recipes include everything from Ina’s signature Blobbs and Heavenly Hots to Foolproof Pancakes and Baked French Toast. In addition to breakfast favorites, Ina has also included savory dishes and dessert recipes. Ina's Kitchen is a love letter to the diners Ina has fed over the years. In it, she shares her wisdom with the same generosity—both of food and of spirit—that kept people coming back to her restaurant for decades.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Law and Order By Aja Roy Glenn readers and fans are in for a treat with It's A New Day. It has all of the elements he’s known for. Mike Black and his crew have taken back their city, delivering death notices, multiple times to gain order but there was so much more here. In this book, you get to see the gift that Roy Glenn has that not many writers possess. He’s written a mystery disguised in the fast paced, crime thriller we love him for.As the book opens, my blood gets going. I couldn’t believe what I was reading before being drawn into the circumstances of three different people. I didn’t know their names, nor did I have a clue as to why they were dealt their sentences but I knew that it would be an exciting journey finding out. And I was right. This writer once again showed me he is the Master of not just Urban Suspense but of Urban Mystery as well. There was not just one sleuth on the cases but several and all worked hard to shed the light on them. I was happy to see Marcus Douglas and Carmen Taylor working together and even more excited by the hot love scenes between Michael and Shy, one of my favorite couples.I would be remiss to not mention that there were times when I wondered where those two might be headed because Jada is not the only challenge to their marriage. Speaking of Jada, her story developed in It’s A New Day and even though I could live without her being a friend in my life, I grew more interested in where she might be going. Maybe there will be a follow up story with her in it?Again, the youngsters have such a role that I would be alright if Roy Glenn decided to write a series with just them in it; they’re just that interesting. But however he chooses to write them, I’m in.All in all, I have to say this was an excellent read. Face-paced enough to keep me glued to my Kindle. Detailed enough that I could see this playing out in living color. Sexy enough to warm me, and it held enough suspense to keep me in the dark about the culprits until the author wanted me informed. Bravo, Master Glenn.

As head administrator of the royal palace in the small, autonomous country of Bajul, Kira Darzin had grown accustomed to being summoned on a moment's notice by the king. But as she stood in the study's open doorway, waves of shock washed over her when her gaze came to rest on the undeniably handsome man seated near the desk. With his neatly trimmed near-black hair, perfectly tailored steel gray suit, and dark Italian loafers, he could have been any successful billionaire. His masculine hands resting casually on the red brocade chair's arms, and the slight lift of his chin, gave him the appearance of an average arrogant autocrat. Yet, when Kira zeroed in on Tarek Azzmar's dark eyes, the power in his intense stare threatened to sweep her away, as it had already done one fateful night not so long ago.She saw unmistakable confidence. She sensed deep secrets. She felt the pull of provocative danger. A place she had been before both with him, and with another man from her past. A place she vowed to never revisit. She also noticed that his somewhat regal air made it seem as if he was the one holding court in the private office that belonged to Rafiq Mehdi, the official monarch of Bajul, who was oddly absent. However, Mr. Deeb, the king's personal assistant, stood not far away. When Deeb greeted her, his words sounded tinny to her ears as Tarek rose to his feet, revealing well over six feet of prime male. With effort, Kira reclaimed enough calm to pretend she had never associated with the Moroccan mogul beyond a few social gatherings. A bald-faced lie. "It's a pleasure to see you again, Mr. Azzmar," she said through a polite and somewhat forced smile."Thepleasure is all mine, Ms. Darzin."His emphasis on the word unearthed several images in Kira's mind. Hot kisses. Naked bodies. One night of unbelievable passion. And six weeks since that experience, not one word from him. That sour thought thrust her back to the business at hand. "What might I do for you two gentlemen today?"Tarek presented the sexy half smile that had melted her resistance like warm chocolate from the first moment they'd met. "Perhaps Mr. Deeb should explain."The balding, middle-aged assistant stepped forward and pushed his wire-rimmed glasses up on the bridge of his nose. "Actually, I am here representing His Excellency. Both he and Mr. Azzmar request your assistance."She saw planning an elite soiree in her future. Lovely. "I'm sorry, but I was on my way out for an appointment when I received the message to stop by here. I didn't bring the upcoming schedule with me. If you'll give me a date, I'll begin planning the event immediately.""This does not involve an event," Tarek said. "It would require your attention for ten days, perhaps even two weeks."She couldn't imagine any project that would last so long if it didn't involve a special occasion or state dinner. "Do you mind giving me specifics?""Mr. Azzmar needs a personal assistant," Deeb began, "and King Mehdi has offered your services until a replacement can be located."Surely they weren't serious. She glanced at Tarek and, from the all-business expression on his striking face, saw he was quite serious. Regardless, she would not bend to his will and instead, mentally ran through a litany of reasons to decline, minus the most important one—she was too vulnerable when it came to his charisma. "Considering my responsibilities with my position at the palace, I'm afraid that's impossible. Prince Zain, his wife and children will be returning in three days. And next week, Prince Adan's sister-in-law and Sheikh Rayad will be joining them. Someone has to prepare for their arrival.""We have resolved that issue," Deeb added. "Elena has agreed to assume your responsibilities until you fulfill your duty to Mr. Azzmar."She had a difficult time believing Elena, former governess and biological mother of the youngest Mehdi prince, Adan, would agree to such a thing. "She hired me as the director of the household so she could retire. It doesn't seem fair to ask this of her."Deeb scowled. "Our king gave the order and Elena still adheres to his directives."Kira stifled a retort involving what the king could do with this directive. "And I have no say in this matter?"Before Deeb could respond, Tarek took a step forward to address the royal attaché. "Might I have a word alone with Ms. Darzin?"Deeb nodded. "Of course. I will return to my office should you require further assistance."As soon as Deeb left out the door, closing it behind him, Kira turned to Tarek and frowned. "Would you please explain why you didn't reject Rafiq's request in light of what happened between us?"He leaned back against the desk and folded his arms across his chest. "I made the request, not the king."Unbelievable. "Why would you want me as your glorified secretary with all the other candidates available among the palace staff?""No secretarial work will be involved, and no other candidates intrigue me as you do."Kira crossed the room to the window, putting much-needed space between them and stared a few seconds at the mountainous terrain before facing him again. "You mean no other candidates have slept with you, correct?""I do not recall any measurable sleeping that night."Neither did Kira, but she did remember one important fact. "True, and then you suddenly disappeared. I assumed you had moved back to Morocco.""What would the logic be in that since I have recently completed my estate here in Bajul?"She supposed her hypothesis hadn't made much sense. Then again, neither had letting their relationship go so far during the time when the royal family had been in the States for their cousin Rayad's wedding to Piper Mehdi's sister, Sunny. If she'd only been focused on her job, they wouldn't be having this conversation."I just found it odd you haven't been around the past six weeks." And somewhat hurtful, not that she dared admit that to him."Actually, I have been traveling abroad."She almost asked if the broad had a name but recognized that word probably wouldn't be a part of his vernacular. "Backpacking in Europe?"That earned her a confused look. "Completing a multimillion-dollar business venture."Just what he needed—more money. Kira bit back the snide comment for the time being. "Regardless, I still feel it's wise that we not spend any more time together than necessary, particularly for two weeks. If you need my help finding someone who can assist you, I'm willing to begin looking tomorrow."He pushed off the desk and approached her slowly, his intense eyes trained on hers. "You would defy your king's order?"If Tarek came any closer, she might agree to anything. "I'm sure he would understand if I explained why I can't accommodate you."His smile was somewhat devious and patently sensual. "You would tell him that we made love on the marble floor in my ballroom?"That prompted several more images that Kira forced away. "Of course not. First of all, we had sex with no love involved. Secondly, no one needs to know that I had an interlude with a palace guest unless I want to lose my job, which I don't. I'll simply tell the king my schedule is too full."He stood in front of her then, a scant few inches between them. "Surely you do not believe Rafiq Mehdi will accept that explanation."Not exactly. "All I can do is try. If he rejects my excuse, then I'll think of something else." A spontaneous trip to Canada to visit her parents seemed like a viable explanation.Tarek moved closer, reached out and tucked one side of her chin-length hair behind her ear. "Your eyes fascinate me. The dark blue color is extraordinary, yet it suits your overall beauty."Here we go again. His charming tactics had sent her straight into trouble the last time, but she couldn't force herself to move away from him. "You can stop the compliments now. You've already had your way with me.""I wish to have my way with you again."His motivation had become all too clear. "Is that what this is all about?"Fortunately, he dropped his hand, causing her to release the breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. "No. I sincerely do need an assistant I can trust. You are intelligent and personable and highly regarded by the Mehdis. However, I see no reason not to enjoy each other's company when you come with me to my private seaside escape."That almost rendered her speechless. Bajul was located in the mountains, not a sea in sight. "You plan to take me out of the country?""Yes. Cyprus, where I am preparing to launch my latest venture, an exclusive resort. That is why I require your assistance."Kira couldn't ignore visions of beautiful beaches, romantic sunsets and midnight swims. She also couldn't quell her suspicions. "What exactly would my role be?""I would like you to approve the final decisions on the resort's kitchen layout, as well as the interior design. You could also advise the hotel manager on hiring staff.""My forte isn't interior design." Even if it was somewhat of a passion."Are you not overseeing the palace restoration that will begin in a few months? And do you not plan every palace event, including the food and décor?"Clearly he knew all about her upcoming assignments. Too bad she couldn't say the same about his motives. "Yes, but—"He pressed a fingertip against her lips. "Please know I will not force you to come with me. If you decide you cannot tolerate my presence for a mere two weeks, then I will seek other avenues. I do request you give my offer some thought."She'd do nothing but think about it from this point forward. And then she would tell him no. "When do you need my answer?""By tomorrow morning. My plane will be ready to depart in the afternoon."With her thoughts spinning round like a carousel, Kira checked her watch. "Fine. I'll let you know as soon as possible. Right now I have somewhere I need to be."His features turned stern. "Do you have a new paramour?""Doctor's appointment." As if that was any of his business. Now he appeared concerned. "Are you not feeling well?"Fatigued and edgy, but well enough to function. "Just a follow-up visit for a slight case of the flu I had a week ago," she said as she brushed past him and headed to the door. But before she could leave, Tarek called her name in a deep, chill-inducing voice. She sighed and turned toward him again. "What?""Perhaps you need relaxation to recover from this flu. Cyprus is the premier place to do that very thing.""You wouldn't worry I might expose you?"He hinted at a smile. "You have already exposed me and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience."That deserved an eye roll, which she gave him. "You're not helping your cause, Tarek. I won't agree even to consider accompanying you unless you promise to halt the innuendo and the thinly veiled seduction."He tried on an innocent look, but it failed to impress her. "I can only promise that I will try. I do promise to make the journey worth your while."His methods of making that happen concerned her most of all. "I'll keep that in mind. At the moment, I have to go."He ate up the space between them in a matter of seconds, took her hand and kissed it. "Until we meet again."Don't hold your breath, she thought as she hurried into the hallway. Wisdom dictated she refuse to go with him anywhere, especially to an exotic locale where she could forget her worries, and most likely would forget herself. She needed to remember he was exactly the kind of man she'd strived to shun. And after tomorrow morning, when she'd tell him he could find someone else to do his bidding, she would have absolutely no reason to speak to him again."You're pregnant."Balanced on the edge of the uncomfortable exam table, Kira tugged on her skirt hem and stared blankly at Dr. Maysa Mehdi, presiding queen of Bajul and resident village physician. "Excuse me?" she asked, her voice barely a croak.Maysa scooted the rolling stool closer and flipped her lengthy dark braid back over one shoulder. "When I ordered your lab work last week, I had them add a pregnancy test, in light of your symptoms. That test was positive and all the rest were normal."Kira pinched the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes against the sudden headache. "This can't be happening.""I'm afraid it is, and it appears you are not pleased with the news."Kira opened her eyes and exhaled slowly. "I'm shocked. First of all, I've been on the pill for years. Secondly, I've been exposed only one time in several years." And some exposure it had been.Maysa opened the chart resting in her lap and scanned the text. "I notice here you have not requested a refill on your birth control in two months."Guilty. "I suppose I've been so busy I basically forgot. And I had no real need for them." Until Tarek Azzmar slipped into her life like a thief of hearts and destroyed her self-imposed celibacy."Perhaps you were so busy that you forgot to take your pills prior to the time of your lovemaking?" Maysa asked.Guilty again. "Yes, but only for two, maybe three days tops.""That is all it takes, Kira."She suddenly felt like an absolute fool. An unequivocal idiot. "Believe me, I never planned to be with this man."Maysa smiled. "At times, plans go awry and mistakes are made. How will this man feel about the pregnancy?"She had no clue how Tarek would react, or if she would even tell him. "I truly don't know. In reality, I barely know him beyond a few social functions. It was something neither of us expected to happen.""If he is a man of honor," Maysa began, "he will accept the responsibility of raising a child."

As part of her duties she had been assigned to take care of Tarek Azzmar on his visit to Bajul. She didn't expect the intense attraction between them, and the one night it got the better of them both. When she ends up pregnant, she doesn't know what to tell him. Tarek has made it clear that he isn't one to make a commitment to any woman.Tarek is a man bent on revenge. When he found out that he was the illegitimate son of the former king, he was angry that his mother had been abandoned and he was never acknowledged. He has made it his goal to be wealthier and more powerful than his half brothers before revealing the truth to them. He had originally planned to use Kira for information about the royal family, but gave that up when he realized that her loyalty to them would not allow her to cooperate. He didn't expect to be so attracted to her that she would be a distraction from his purpose.Tarek is used to getting his way and he wants Kira back in his bed. He manages to get the king to loan him Kira's services to complete the work on his new resort on Cyprus. He is intent on her seduction. Kira is reluctant to put herself at risk of giving in to him again, but spending time with Tarek will give her a chance to see if he is father material. What she finds is a man who is very complicated. I loved seeing Kira try to peel away the protective layers. He can be a very romantic man, and some of the things he does for her have her giving in to her heart. She discovers that he has great capacity for love, but considers it to be a weakness that opens one up to betrayal. Her growing love for him has her trying to make him see that money and power and revenge are no substitute for love. She fears that his reaction to her news will not go well. I liked seeing her stand up to him and stay strong for her own belief in what is important.Tarek's desire for revenge has dominated his adult life. When Kira comes into his world her presence distracts him from his goal. Though he insists that he doesn't do long term commitments, she takes up more of his thoughts of the future than he is comfortable with. He is also a man who is very protective of his private life, though he finds it harder and harder to keep her out of it. Once he lets her in on his secrets, some of the things she says have him rethinking his beliefs. Her news stuns him and he has to decide what is more important to him. I loved seeing everything he went through as he let go of the past and opened his heart to the risks of love.I enjoyed seeing the other Mehdi brothers and how their lives are progressing. Their interactions with wives and children were fun to see. I also liked seeing their reactions to Tarek and his news and their acceptance of him. The epilogue was fun.

By dropsydot Kira Darzin is head administrator of the royal palace of Bajul . The King has offered her services as a personal assistant for two weeks to Tarek Azzmar. There is a past between them Kira finds out their one night together left consequences , so maybe having this time with him will help her decide if he is truly capable of being a father to her child. Kira is adopted and so she knows what it feels like to not be wanted and does not want that for her child. When they are together the chemistry is hot and the story is a wonderful continuation of her sheikh stories which can be read alone but together are wonderful . There are secrets that will come to light also. You love Kira and love Tarek and realize he loves her but his past also rules his feelings. A fantastic story by a wonderful author Kristi Gold does it again with a great love story. I love that she continues it even after they get their HEA, its always great to see where the two are a few years down the road.

More than as a weight classification, it’s an abnormality that more often than not, distracts a person and his interaction to the people around him.The book, Salad Recipes for Rapid Weight Loss, is a helpful tool in appreciating the value of salad recipes for safe and healthy weight loss. As cited, “feeling deprived keeps us from sticking to diet, but a better way to approach weight loss is to eat foods that are low in calories—delicious enough to satisfy your palate.” Indeed this book is such a perfect guide for a healthy and fit mind and body.

I am also a lover of many different types of salads, so this book was a great find for me. The recipes are very easy to follow and easy to make. The Avocado and Spinach salad is very good. I made it this weekend and loved it. My next salad will be the Caprese Salad. Thanks for a great book full of awesome salads.
