When trust becomes a matter of life or death... Heart Searlington, captain of the seventy-fourth precinct in Brooklyn, New York, has everything she could ever want. The sexy as sin husband, the perfect house, and the perfect addition to their family, four-month-old Amare. But when a senseless act of violence threatens the lives of two people she loves, Heart does what comes natural to her…she protects what’s hers. Kenneth Searlington, billionaire real estate tycoon, is living the ultimate dream—family, friends, and wealth. Life couldn’t be more perfect, until trusting the wrong friend puts his life on the line. When he can’t trust friends or family, Kenneth takes matters into his own hands. Who should Kenneth trust? The wife who lied, or the friend and family who betrayed him? Maybe the only person he can trust is himself? When protecting the heart she loves forces Heart to omit certain truths about herself and those she loves, can Kenneth see past her betrayal long enough for her to keep him alive?

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A real disappointment. By binky mcgee I must address a review that someone else left.sbrewer promised never to read another Laquette book because romance, real romance is between a man and a woman. You are entitled to what you believe and feel. You also have the right to state those beliefs. But please tell me where you were when you read the previous two books. They both clearly state that Justice and Bryan have a relationship and that they are both men. Why are you surprised now?LaQuette has fallen into the "formula trap". Crime, Ken and Heart disagreeing about shared information, fighting sex, make-up sex.I must warn of SPOILERS.Ken and Bryan get shot. Bryan takes an armor piercing bullet that goes through him and still hits Ken. Bryan winds up in a coma for weeks. The damage to Ken is minimal. This books has very little to do with the investigation of the case and more with the conflict between Ken and Heart. Ken's behavior in the book is immature and totally about him. The fact the everyone apologizes for not telling him Bryan is gay and Jussy's husband is ludicrous. Bryan's sexuality is no one's business but his own. Ken doesn't automatically get the right to know because he joined the family. The book is all about Ken throwing a fit because he feels his family is lying to him. Then his alpha-male ego is raging because Heart wants to put a protective detail on him. He keeps saying he can take care of himself but if that were true he would have been able to read the things that were happening at the event where he got shot and manage to prevent. The story goes downhill when Heart tells Ken about the super secret unit that her uncle, Hunter, a general in the army is in charge of. Everything she tells him becomes more and more ridiculous. Only her four cousins qualified for this unit. THEN, she takes him to the Gauntlet, a super secret training facility located below her uncles house.Sorry LaQuette, you lost me with that fairytale. I couldn't take it seriously after that.Top that all off with international intrigue and I felt the series digressed into fantasyland. If the series goes off into a story about True and Teague or Justice and Bryan, K*I*S*S. If you are going to add stuff about the military get started on research. When something is super secret, it means no one outside of the people involved know about it. (That means Heart doesn't have the need to know, no matter what. The fact that she tells and shows Ken is the exact reason why she wouldn't know about it.) Obviously you can create a unit but make it real. The fact that only the Amares qualified is more than ridiculous. Do some homework.Yes this is a story but as a writer you are obligated to maintain the truth regarding how an established, actual government agency is run.I was very disappointed. I don't think I'll be back for any subsequent books. The series became a bad cartoon.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. What Happen By pat Kenneth and Hearts passion was not there like it was in the first 2 books and then not to be able to share in them being pregnant a second time and birth of their son left me with a when did that take place. Bryan and Jussy's story is a standalone i'am sure.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful blessing that they have the little person is now ... By Danielle OMG where do i begin Heart Mackenzie Shearlington does it again ...... The mystery and power just keeps coming. Beautiful blessing that they have the little person is now apart of them ( little Amere) and with each turn their love is tested and brought to the light but they always end up back where they should be. Now the shock on my face to discover the Bryan and Justice were an item let alone married. I am loving the and as well as the secret with the Tenetti family edge of your seat thriller. dont want to give it all but if you have not read it do not wait any longer.... Ms. LaQuette Hun i see a movie in your future.... High Five
