Tant Note - I received a copy of this book free from the author for review purposes.I will freely admit...I don't like salad. It's just a bunch of vegetables on a plate. However, given that I am a member of civil society and my excursions in said society require me to eat greens on occasion, I greatly appreciate the various dressings and things that make forcing it down a lot easier.This book promises that. In fact, it promises a great deal via a relatively lengthy forward. Now, before we begin I need to make clear that I appreciate the democratization of publishing that Kindle has created. I like the idea of a person being able to self-publish, especially if there's a compelling need (on either side of the equation) for a book...and I don't think large publishing houses should be the gatekeepers of what books should or shouldn't be in the market. That said, I think Ms. Stone really needs to enlist the services of a good editor before she continues with her writing career. The introduction is a two and a half page paean to salads, but it is meandering and grammatically awkward. For instance, I'll post this excerpt:"The best part of salad dressings is that they are so easy to prepare. They require sometimes a maximum of 10 minutes to prepare. Sometimes you can even make your dressing in less than 5 minutes. Most of the times salad dressings do not require any cooking, which makes it even easier. A few fancy salad dressings may require some heating up in the microwave or even cooking in the kitchen, but even those complicated salad dressings are not really complicated and take less than 20 minutes to prepare."I may be nitpicky, but it seems to me Stone first starts with a declaration (require a maximum of 10 minutes), softens it awkwardly (require sometimes vs sometimes require), modifies it further with the same word (sometimes), then goes into detail about some fancy salad dressings that are complicated (but not really complicated!) that require more than 10 minutes. Then there's an awkward phrase (most of the times [sic]). This book is rife with this kind of writing...points buried under meandering, repetitive, and awkward prose.Each recipe is preceded by a sentence or two from the author, and those are often repetitive as well. For example, for a French dressing recipe we are told that "The French like their salad with lots of flavors..." Later in the book, for a Russian dressing we are told "The Russians like their salad with lots of flavors..." And again, we see the awkward grammar (Use the plural "salads" when talking about more than one person). This sort of thing happens across all the recipe introductions.One more point and I think this is important.. In books like these, the author's credibility is important. The author needs to be the expert. Well, in her defense, Stone does NOT set herself up as some kind of culinary mastermind. In fact, she downplays her expertise. On the other hand, I'm disappointed that she chose an easily-found stock photo for her author photograph (seriously, it's on Shutterstock). To me this really impacts the credibility of the book. Better to have no photo than a fake one, in my opinion.OK, enough with all of that. What about the recipes?Well, they fall under two broad categories: vinaigrettes and what I call "creamies." However, the recipes tend to have some issues as well. I'll use the first recipe in the book (Basil Vinaigrette) as an example. Instructions are perfunctory....mainly a list of ingredients and a direction to "mix well." Well, for a vinaigrette that doesn't necessarily work. The point of a vinaigrette is that it is an emulsion, because oil and vinegar do not mix. So you employ a little chemistry in it, but in all cases you mix everything BUT the oil, then bring the two together and ideally shake or blend it...a simple mixing technique isn't going to work very well. Somewhat startling is Stone's statement that mustard in this recipe is optional. No, you need something like mustard in a vinaigrette because again you are creating an emulsion. Mustard is more than just flavor here. Mustard is a substance made of little tiny particles suspended in liquid, and it's those little tiny particles that keep your vinaigrette together...otherwise the emulsion won't hold and you end up with a jar of vinegar with an oil slick on top. Plus, there is a definite order here. You need to integrate everything into the vinegar FIRST, then emulsify it. So I take issue with the technique (or lack thereof) in the book.HOWEVER, and this is important...the recipes themselves are good starting points if you have technique. There are some interesting ones (I like the pear vinaigrette) which are good additions to anyone's recipe file. And I am mindful that this is a self-published work. That all said, I like the book for the ideas, but will not suggest relying on the book for technique.

By Redman I received a free copy of this book for an honest and impartial review: While I cannot say that I have tried all fifty dressing recipes, I have tried several. All were easy to make with what I had on hand or something easy enough to pick up at the local grocer. I loved some and other were not to my liking. That is going to be up to personal preference though. The prologue to the book is a bit over the top but this is not a novel, it is a salad dressing recipe book and a darn good one. Well done Jennifer.

About the Author James Lock, MD, PhD, is a child psychiatrist and Professor of Child Psychiatry and Pediatrics in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Child Development, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, at Stanford University. He is also Director of the Eating Disorders Program in the Division of Child Psychiatry and Psychiatric Director of the Comprehensive Care Program, an inpatient eating disorder program for children and adolescents, at Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. The author of numerous scientific publications on eating disorders in youth, Dr. Lock is a recipient of the Price Family Foundation Award for Research Excellence from the National Eating Disorders Association and Early Career and Mid-Career Development Awards from the National Institute of Mental Health. Daniel Le Grange, PhD, is the Benioff UCSF Professor in Children’s Health in the Departments of Psychiatry and Pediatrics and Joint Director of the Eating Disorders Program at the University of California, San Francisco. He trained at the Institute of Psychiatry, University of London, where he was a member of the team at the Maudsley Hospital that developed family-based treatment for anorexia nervosa. He served on the faculty of the University of Chicago for over 16 years, and is now Emeritus Professor. Berganza, MD Although I am a well trained child psychiatrist and somehow an experienced clinician, I have no formal training in FBT for eating disorders. However, I am treating my first case of a young girl suffering from AN following the directives of this manual, with excelent results so far.I truly recommend this excellent book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. One Of The Best By Elizabeth81091 This book is simply amazing. It is inspiring, horrifying, uplifting, saddening and eye opening all at once. Readers will definitely step into a world so unimaginable that is also so real. I especially appreciate that the author donates some of the proceeds to help people enslaved in human trafficking. I love the advice from one of the characters in the book who exhorts others to not only inform people about human trafficking but to do something about it as well. If this doesn't inspire each reader to do something to help victims of human trafficking, I don't know what will! Excellent read.

It was done while keeping an appropriateness in the scenes without going graphic like so many books and movies do in todays cult By Atticus This book was really thought provoking. It exposes the immense tragedy of the human sex trafficking industry....and for what it really is--slavery. This subject is one that doesn't get much exposure in the traditional media, given the circumstances and extent of the problem. The author really brings this front and center where you feel the experience first hand and see just how soul crushing it can be for the victims. It was done while keeping an appropriateness in the scenes without going graphic like so many books and movies do in todays culture. And as we all love positive stories, it brings redemption to the narrative. Unfortunately not all stories in this world of the sex trade end in redemption. Human evil will never be eliminated. But for the victims in these circumstances at this very moment, hopefully this book is just one of the many pieces of God's grace that will expose and reduce its influence to as little as possible this side of eternity. Well done!

Yes, I had heard about child sex trafficking/slavery but never to this extent. All my knowledge has been from watching the news, but the news does not take you into this world. Miss Singleton takes you into the horrific world of what is actually going on today in our country and the entire world. Thank you for the education. She has put her research into a captivating story that will bring you to your knees. You will be in shock, you will cry, you will think about what is “really” going on around you, and you will thank God you do not have to experience this reality. This book will not let you put it down. A real page-turner. If you have a young child, hug her and keep her close.

I've read all Yvonne's books and enjoyed them all. She's the female equivalent of Walter Mosley/James Patterson. Wish she could get more books out I love her style of writing.

This book was so good I couldn't even put it down long enough to work. I read this book in 3 hrs. You went way back with some of the spaghetti stuff YUCK.!!!! This book was definitely unpredicatable and that's what kept me on edge and wanting more. The details of the lovemaking had me slightly aroused but that's nothing new LL. Rasheeda and Cole did some f'd up stuff and they'd pushed Faith to her breaking point. In the midst of catching her husband with her bestfriend she still found pleasure . It's a phrase in Chapter 12 that caught my attention bcuz OUR friend love ❤ to say that LL. The ending was sad but I was upset bcuz you've still left me hanging. You deserve more than 5 stars love ❤. I will be on the lookout for a part 3 or a spin-off. Continue to bring out good book and I'll keep buying. God Bless You Love ❤ Y.L.- J.

Who commits the acts that she has committed & still think that s*** is sweet? I want no friend like that in my life. I was shocked by how the ending of the story went. I was not expecting Faith to finish her story in he manner that she did but it coudn't get any better than that. Her husband should have to wear her blood on his hand. I enjoyed another book by Nisha L.

Nisha ran me through the mill and back with the character evolution & lack thereof. Cole, Faith, Rasheeda, and Kelly are messed up and needed to be saved. But only one is delivered in part 2!I need a 3rd part or I might go crazy Nisha !Wonderfully done !!!

Instant Nostalgia and a Brilliant Debut By Nathan Burgoine This book generated an instant nostalgia - the moment I was finished, I wished I could read it again for the first time. I want to trot out so many adjectives for this book I'm not sure where to start: charming, sly, moving, clever, honest-to-gods-witty, funny. All of those. More.On the narrative side, the title spells out most of the notion of the tale. We have Bambi Devine (known as B.D. to most): bridal consultant, recently out femme, and heartstruck by Bridget McKnight. That Bridget is in a relationship with Natalie is problematic, but does little to stop B.D.'s heart from wanting what it wants. But Natalie's odd friendship with Maxine leaves B.D. to wonder if there's still hope.If that sounds too simple, don't worry - it's not. Rosenfeld puts so much character into the players on this stage that you'll be as smitten as I was with nearly everyone (and also ruthlessly enjoy not being smitten with those you dislike). I cheered for B.D. from almost the first page - you want her to succeed, you want her to get everything she deserves, you want her to have the perfect damned stockings, darn it - and more than that, you want B.D. to realize just how freaking awesome she is.Rosenfeld has mastery of the turn of a phrase to evoke a sly, almost unassuming humour that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. It's not quite a dry humour, and it's not quite a sarcastic humour - it's wonderfully unique. 'The One that Got Away' is not a long novel, and yet it packs a complete punch. I can only assume Rosenfeld draws on her gift of poetry to say so much with fewer words than most would use. It was frankly a delight reading something so finely crafted.I can't wait for more. In the meanwhile, this book earned its place on the very small pile of books I will reread again.

It's the story of an older lesbian coming out while being infatuated with someone who's already in a relationship.I was lucky. I came out early. Regardless, I identified a lot with the novel's main character, Bambi Devine (there's a cute reason given on how she got that name). All of us, no matter what our sexual orientation, have fallen for someone who didn't love us back. And whether that person gave us a sign that something might happen, or we simply misunderstood the signals, we all have been there, and that's what makes this story so delicious.That's all I'll say about this ode to the one that got away, for telling you any more would spoil the magic. Just know that this romance has some clever one liners and painful truths.*Apart from my review, there was something I wanted to mention as a reader. At one stage it was pointed out that a Brazilian character now residing in the USA enjoys Christmas in its proper season, Winter, as all the paraphernalia is geared for cold weather. I've only once had Christmas in Winter. Summer seems a normal time to have Christmas to me.

I've had his hiking books before and enjoyed them, but this one kicks it up a notch with all the added material. There are some brand new parks to Milwaukee that have been included so it's the first hiking book in print to have those.

The heroine is as intelligent and insightful as she was described to be; the author relates her character so well that I truly understood her desire to become a spy and finally obtain the chance to shape history. The hero, on the other hand, wasn't as well-fleshed out. The spy plot, developed amidst the Congress of Vienna, was intriguing--the villianess's plans caught me by surprise when they were finally unvealed. I recommend this!

Along with some other notables--Elizabeth Thornton, Joan Wolf, Mary Jo Putney, Connie Brockway, and Judith Ivory spring to mind--Jane Ashford writes some of the most interesting, complex and satisfying historical romances around. To each her own, but if you like a little edge to your romance reading, try Jane Ashford.

After an intriguing blurb, i was very disappointed after the initial chapters to find the plot unravelling rapidly, the characters uninteresting and no explanation on how they suddenly fell in love with each other.i couldn't even finish the book for wanting to hurl against the nearest wall.

By Michelle New What is a girl to do when she catches her boyfriend of five years banging away at the office intern? Eat her weight in ice cream and then scrape herself off her besties couch and get her some. The only problem, for a girl like Caroline a one-night stand is something she’s never really considered. But with the right push from her two friends, she gets herself dolled up and heads out on the town to find her target.Caroline gets herself into quite the pickle when she finds herself torn between two guys. One she’s taking home with her and the other she can’t stop thinking about.Operation: One Night Stand was such an entertaining read. I laughed so hard when reading this and found myself loving every single scene. It is very rare for female characters to hold my attention but Mel, Sarah and Caroline had me in fits. I loved this trio.I have to admit that rom-coms are typically not my thing. They’re sweet at times, they usually have a few funny things, but sometimes it can come across as too over the top. With OONS, it was effortless humor. I found the mixture was balanced out perfectly. We have a slight angsty angle to the relationship between Caroline and Brian/Ryan (no love triangle) which allowed the story to deepen.If you are looking for a fun read that will check off all your romance must haves. Pick this up. I could not put it down and could not hold in the laughter. I can’t wait to pick up the rest of this series!

And in your face "that's how we roll" with no apologies for the crud and undeniably sex talk.Carolines character is hysterical and reminds me a bit of bambi trying out the legs for the first time, but after a few steps, the girl is moving like a beast.Her clumsiness through operation one.night stand I think most can relate. Her bffs are super honest and aggressive with ensuring their friend gets herself back out into the world after a nasty break-up.You definitely find yourself rooting for Brian. I hate Mare and Mals ole childish behind couldn't get it together!!! And I really hate Mare did that to the girl but heeeeyyy you live and you learn!! I'm only upset about Ahmare and Mallory. I loved them. I just didn't see their story ending that way. Dream still crazy as hell and Jay still alive. Wattz and JJ still in their with each other. Their happy ending made it all better.

A Rare and Special Treasure By Beth Barrows The title says "An Invaluable Collection of About Eight Hundred Practical Recipes".The term "Invaluable", as used in the title, is no exaggeration or overstatement, the collection is,in my view, quite invaluable both as a historical recordas well as from a technical and practical viewpoint.In my opinion every family should have this book on their shelves.The collection of "recipes" as they are called, is a veritable treasure trove.I've never learned so much about how to make or do so many different things in such a short sitting.I'd always wondered how certain things were done in the past.Now, I have a handy resource and can duplicate just about any of the methods or remedies contained therein.These are things my grandparents did as a matter of course.There is everything there from blacksmithing to farming, to pharmacy ready remedies.The "recipes" are well researched, tested and written, of broad scope, of great practicality and timeless usefulness.Dr. Chase was well respected and much sought after by pharmacists and farmers,merchants and doctors and common housewives because the recipes work, they areeffective, efficient and have been successfully tested before being released.For this reason they became a standard in their time.He was what we would call a household name and like the "McGuffey Reader"most people at the turn of the 20th century had one of these books to refer to.The volume itself is beautiful and warm to the touch.From its gold embossed, green cloth binding to its lithographic illustrationsand its old advertisementsit is pleasure to hold, thumb through and an honor to preserve.The information contained in this book now makes it a priceless heirloomI can be proud to pass down to my grandchildren, hoping it will teach themto be more self reliant, resourceful, natural and independent.

At the time it was published, individual receipes to cure a sick horse or sick child were quite expensive. I have the 38th edition, which was published in 1866.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Dr. Chase Knows All By Eulogia I have an ancient copy of this book handed down from my great-great grandmother. My copy is dog-earred and so worn the cover cannot be deciphered, but I've always loved thumbing through to find remedies for various complaints. In addition, Dr. Chase knows when to plant crops, how to care for farm animals, how to make basic household conveniences such as soap, baskets, spinning, weaving, churning butter...you name it, he has it in this book. Some of the remedies for illnesses might seem like they're from the Inquisition, but even simple poultices can be used today with great results. I wouldn't recommend dosing your child with kreosote, but amid the obvious bad advice are gems to be used in today's world. This copy of the book is much easier to read than my over 100 years-old copy, but the language is quaint and the book is an entertaining piece of Americana.
