Review "I highly recommend "Vanishing Point" by Tim Amsden... I felt I entered his worldand enjoyed, word by word, the meaning of his journey in life." - Reader Views
From the Author I live with my wife in remote high country New Mexico, among a diverse group of poets, dancers, painters, and other strange creatures. I write poetry partly because of the purity. I don't have to worry about what could bring money or fame because there is no money or fame in poetry. I can use any words in any way I want. I'm oddly trapped in the freedom of poetry, like a whirling dervish in a sombrero.
From the Back Cover The poems in this remarkable collection, like the miscellaneous objects in the museum that inspired the book's arrangement, are as random--and as revealing--as life itself. As we turn the pages, we have a growing sense that every encounter with people, creatures, objects or events--whether personal or public, welcome or apprehensive, playful or serious--reveals more than itself: A voice keeps asking, Where am I in all this? That question soon becomes ours, as does the answer, though it remains unspoken until the book's final poem asks the question again and, in a voice expanding to include the whole earth and its inhabitants, even the angels, proclaims the answer in the soaring last lines of a communal hymn. --Bob Longoni served as Director of the University of Arizona Poetry Center, and is the author of Woodpiles Tim Amsden's Vanishing Point has wit and pathos, wisdom and delight. These poems show the heart of a man who cherishes life and is not afraid to open himself to the larger questions of who and why we are in this complicated world. He moves seamlessly from intimate memory to the tenderness of loving his wife, to sharing life's simple moments, the ones that sustain us. With humor and honesty, Amsden takes us on a journey through the rooms of his life, where "...in my center nests a sliver of grace."--Paula Sayword is the author of What Sleeps Inside and Canticle of Light and Dark

A major talent By ROGER IRWIN I have waited a long while to write a review because as I read the other reviews they seemed to have stolen all my comments! This is the best book of poetry that I now own, period. For me, just one poem, "When I am Old" is worth the price of the book. This is not to diminish the rich resonances the seventy-five other pieces deliver. In every page "buttons are pushed" and deep connections are made. Who hasn't fantasized about changing their name at sometime in their life: read "Bouchard." It's easy to get stuck with names, words, phrases buzzing around in my head for a whole day after reading. Today I'm trying to get "Lola Moonfrog" out of my mind. Opening this book is like visiting a modern version of a Victorian "Cabinet of Curiosities." But then, Amsden tells us at the outset we are going to visit a museum that is "fun and full of surprises" and he delivers. Now I think I will get back to my attempt to memorize "When I am Old." Here is a major talent.

I am in love with the book By Nancy Dobbs I have not been able to put the book down since I opened it and yet I made myself, so I could savor the work more and prolong the read. I am in love with the book. Off to Tim Amsdens youth and then a tweak to my own. The English Language has really been quite a mystery to me and those people, like Tim, who know it more fully add something more to a life experience. I am envious of the skill and in awe of where you transport me.Thank you for making such a gift for the rest of us. I am having trouble picking out a favorite, but for now it is Final Instructions.

It combines delicious irony, humor, a view of the world that perfectly juxtaposes images that only he would have the insight to observe and, when you least expect it, an unbearable sweetness. His new book, Vanishing Point, provides readers with the opportunity to immerse themselves in Tim’s world. It is a moving and memorable journey.
