By Michael's Mom I get that it's hard to create paranormal characters that are easy to relate to ... hence the term "paranormal". However, relate-able characters are just what Jacqueline Turner Banks provides in her page-turner "Scented Dreams". This fast-paced sequel to the equally engaging "Scented Lust", is filled with believable characters possessing unbelievable traits. What makes this book (and the entire series) so special to me is that these aren't your typical "teen-angst" filled books, lacking in diversity and sizzle. No, these stories are for grown-ups like me, who crave hot love stories with a twist. And the characters are diverse, a refreshing change from your "typical" paranormal fiction."Scented Dreams" stars Ian, a character first introduced in "Scented Lust". Here, his character is fleshed out and given an interesting background and personality, which adds depth to the story itself. The story, set in and around Chicago, features several other interesting characters who will grab your attention. At the same time, series regulars are featured, teaching us more about these enigmatic figures.Easy to follow, this tale breathes new life into the paranormal genre, which too often caters to white, suburban teenagers. I am a middle-aged, African American woman (and self-described sci fi/paranormal fan) and I am so glad to finally find a paranormal series that I can relate to!

The story centers around Ian and Nesta, who at first glance appear to be complete polar opposites. During the course of this story, you come to realize all the complexities involved to make this more than just a love story; it is a story of family. Whether related by blood, experiences, or circumstance. The author takes readers on an awesome and enjoyable ride where you become immersed in all the nuances, complexities, trials, joys, and fears of an ever-increasing family dynamic. The family dynamics of this book kept me turning the page to find out where the story would take me next. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a very enjoyable and exciting ride. It is in fact a love story with a good mixture of humor, thrills, and sex to give the reader one hell of a good read. Angibabi4, Night Owls Reviews
