Review "Raw emotions will boil over as you turn each page of Beneath the Silence ... Charlene Carr has written a dark and frightening tale of one runaway's story of life in a dark world where survival becomes its own form of hell and redemption seems impossible." - Tome Tender Blog "When they laughed, I laughed. When they cried, I shed tears. I loved this book." - Yawatta Hosby, A Writer's Blog
About the Author Charlene Carr is an ardent lover of words. A voracious reader, when she needed punishment as a child her parents took her books away. These punishments were blessings in disguise - with nothing to read, she created her own stories. Pursuing her life-long obsession with words, Charlene studied literature in University, attaining both a BA and MA in English. She contributed to that learning by also earning a Bachelor of Journalism. She chose to work as a freelance writer, editor, and facilitator so she could develop and grow her writing skill while having the time and flexibility to focus on her own creative work. Currently, she's focusing exclusively on novel writing and loving every minute of it ... well, almost every minute. There are days when her characters fight to have the story their way! (And they're almost always right.) Charlene lives in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada and loves exploring the amazing coastline of her harbour town, dancing up a storm, and using her husband as a guinea pig for the healthy, yummy recipes she creates!

Lenox First, I would like to thank Charlene Carr for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.Beneath the Silence by Charlene Carr is a story of how secrets can destroy lives even when those secrets are made and kept with the best of intentions. The book focuses around two characters, Brooke Lake and Molly Shirley. Brooke is a teenage girl who wants to be anywhere her alcoholic father and 'weak' mother are not. Her brother River and best friend Gabe are enough to keep her going until neither seem to be there for her anymore; Brooke decides that the small town she has grown up in has grown too small for her and runs away to the big city with big dreams of starting a new life. Molly, on the other hand, is a woman who is strong and determined to not let her past define who she is today. She has to make difficult decisions to survive, but that is what she is... a survivor.Pros:• This book was very fast paced and continuously jumped back and forth from each character's story and point of view. It kept me interested and wanting to read more.• The hurt that each of the characters felt was very real. The author did an excellent job of using descriptive detail that made the characters come to life.• The author was able to evoke emotions in me and leave me questioning what I would have done if I had been in Brooke's or Molly's situation.Cons:• The timeline was a bit confusing at first, but once I caught on to what was going on, it became clear and a nonissue.• I felt one of the supporting characters wasn't developed quite enough for the amount of time he was supposed to have been in the main character's life. This is the first book I have read from this author, and I am very interested in reading more of her work in the future.

Have you ever felt like your life would be better if you ran away By Marie-Ange Swindells I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.Have you ever felt like your life would be better if you ran away? Did you ever wonder what is out there in the "real world" when you are just a child suffering through things that are unimaginable? That maybe, just maybe you would be better off somewhere else, that life would be a lot easier on you?Beneath the Silence is exactly that.At the beginning we met Brooke Lake, a child from a trouble world. A world she doe not understand and is dying to break free. Her life is shattered by her trouble family, a secret she believes she is caring all by herself, in hopes that this small town she lives in will never find out the troubles. We then met Molly Shirley, a woman who is breaking free on her own. A woman, who is still a child and does not understand how the real world works until one day, it hits her and now she doesn't even know who she is anymore. It's a fight between Brooke and Molly, to see which one will come on top. Which life will be chosen and how will they ever be able to survive.Beneath the Silence is a novel that keeps you thinking, it shows you exactly what real life struggles are all about and it also shows you forgiveness. Because forgiveness is as much for the person receiving it as it is for the person seeking it.This was my first time reading a book by Charlene Carr, and in less then 2 days I had it finished. Once you pick it up, it is really hard to put back down.

The subject matter a bit more disturbing. Domestic violence and the ripple effect it has on a family is a difficult topic to write about. Having been a victim of abuse I know first hand. That having been said I am very impressed and pleased with this book. The author delved into this painful darkness with empathy and slowly, delicately replaced that darkness with the light of self awareness, discovery, hope and most of all forgiveness.Several times I put this book down with the intention of not finishing it. But I did, and am so glad. This is a very well written, thought out story about a families struggle they the darkness of domestic violence, the causes, and the fact that things are never what they seem. The consequences of hidden truths, the inability to forgive. The destruction of a family. She tells the story thru the eyes and heart of a daughter. Her struggle to find herself, make her way and survive in what she perceived as a loveless family. This us an important story to read. Don't wait........
