From Booklist It hardly needs proving that Bova is as effective with shorter fiction as he is with novels. The 14 stories here range widely in subject, from virtual reality to asteroid mining to golf courses on the moon. Tones range from whimsical and satirical to the undeniably grim. There is a pastiche of “Casablanca” (whimsical) and another delicately nuanced one for the late Gordon Dickson’s classic “Call Him Lord.” Strong themes are virtual reality (as a method of bringing back dueling without bloodshed), alien contact, aging (with cryogenic suspension or aboard starships), and the perils of pioneering in space—as dire as any ever faced on earth, if not more so. This volume contains an introduction and fourteen stories. - "Introduction" (original) explains why the author entitled the book as he did. - "Sam Below Par" (Analog, 2012) explores golf and romance on the Moon. - "A Country for Old Men" (Going Interstellar, 2012) follows an old man in an interstellar voyage. - "In Trust" (Tombs, 1995) presents a rich and dying man with a dilemma in protecting his wealth. - "The Question" (Analog, 1998) brings a starship to the Solar System to offer an answer to one question. - "'We'll Always Have Paris'" (original?) brings the major characters of Casablanca together after the liberation of Paris. - "Waterbot" (Analog, 2008) irritates the only crewman in a water collection vessel in the asteroid belt. - "Moon Race" (Universe, 2008) puts a young man and his different vehicle in a race on Luna. - "Scheherazade and the Storytellers" (Gateways, 2010) reveals financial ploy behind the classic fable. - "Duel in the Somme" (Apex, 2006) engages a young geek in a VR simulation against a rival. - "Bloodless Victory" (Bloodless Victory, 2011) exposes a state high court judge to a novel idea. - "Mars Farts" (Baen, 2013) saves three explorers on Mars from an unfortunate accident to their power storage. - "A Pale Blue Dot" (Digital Book, 2013) leads a young man to an astronomical discovery. - "Inspiration" (F&SF, 1994) draws several individuals together in Linz. - "The Last Decision" (Escape Plus, 1984) induces the Emperor of the Hundred Worlds to make a momentous judgement.These tales cover a wide range of topics from the past, present and future. By happy guy Ben Bova gas written a great set of short stories here, I wish other sci fi writers would take note from this collection. if you go to a book store it seems every sci fi book is about this group making war on that group,constant battles in, no real imagination at all. thanks Ben you have brought real interesting sci fi back. I look forward to each story in the book.

Munson Ben Bova has written an excellent collection of short stories in "New Frontiers". From a golf course on the moon to a rescue mission to save the sun from exploding, Bova covers a wide range of topics. Sticking with his usual knack for developing interesting stories and characters, these tales provide action and intrigue throughout.I've been a fan of Ben Bova's works for many years, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading these stories. Rather than having to follow characters throughout an entire novel, the reader is introduced to new characters and situations in each story.I highly recommend this fine collection of short stories. Each one deals with a new adventure, and they are all loaded with Bova's typical blend of science fact and fiction. Bova readers will definitely enjoy this fine collection.
