Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. It was a stunning and unforgettable moment. One of those moments you wait your entire life to witness. And, it was completely unplanned, a moment that could easily have passed without being noticed. But through the sheer good fortune of the fact that I was able not only to notice it, but to be struck by the powerful universal truth of the moment, transformed it into a life-changing event for which I will be eternally grateful. The fact that I was celebrating a birthday is only relevant in that I think we all tend to be a bit more reflective on birthdays. Or maybe just the fact that we’re often surrounded by loved ones opens our hearts in a way that allows for a deeper appreciation of new concepts. Whatever the case, I found myself gazing at a cake covered with a shocking number of candles. (Could I really be that old?) And, of course, someone shouted “make a wish” before blowing my birthday breath all over the cake about to be divvied up between the guests. At this moment I though to myself, “What do I wish for? If I could have anything in the world, what would I want?” And, incredibly, the answer came back…nothing. Nothing more. There is nothing I could wish for that I don’t already have, or have access to obtain. Obviously I could wish to win the lottery. But what would that bring me but money, which I’ve already been blessed with the ability to earn? Granted, I’m not a multi-millionaire; but I have what I need, and the ability to acquire more if I so desire. Besides, studies show that an overwhelming majority of the people who win the lottery find themselves more unhappy than before their winning ticket was cashed. What else could I wish for when I have a loving wife, two beautiful and intelligent healthy children, supportive friends and family members, a comfortable home, the car of my dreams, and frankly, the freedom to go out and get anything else that I really feel a desire to have? I could wish for longevity, but I have my health, and see no reason it won’t continue. More importantly, I have the new rules of thinking, I’ve been blessed to have a few simple guidelines revealed to me that reinforce the reality that anything is not only possible, but within our control to manifest. It’s not magic. It’s not mystical or religious or any kind of noodleheaded hocus pocus; simply some fundamental revelations and guidelines all of us already know but have pushed aside while we battle the trials and tribulations of modern day life.

By Debbie Foulkes This is a great book written in such a personal style that it feels like a private conversation. I had many "Aha" moments as I read each chapter. The advice is practical and applicable to everyone, regardless of background. I just finished reading it, but I've already had several situations where I can apply the New Rules in daily life. Thanks to Robinson for a practical handbook for living a joyful and fulfilled life.

Somehow after the third or fourth chapter the books begin to sound repetitious and I loose my momentum. Stuart Robinson's book was different. It didn't lecture. It didn't make me feel worse about myself before helping me do better. It didn't need 45 chapters to over explain every point. This is a concise, funny, smart reference guide to living a life filled with joy in spite of all the negativity surrounding us daily. I bought 2 for myself (one for the home and one to keep handy in my car) and am sending everyone I know a copy for their birthday. However, I didn't wait for a birthday to send one to a person in my family that unfortunately has isolated themselves with their negativity. I didn't even think it would be cracked open but sent it with nothing more than hope. Imagine my surprise when I received an enthusiastic response. Not only is Stuart reaching a septuagenarian who has never responded to any other help given, including big pharma and therapy, he's actually been able to teach the "old dog new tricks". Hell, he just kicked a long held axiom to the curb! In the same way we need systemic change in many of our long held beliefs, we need Stuart to reach a wider audience. Just imagine if everyone we know had access to this easily implemented guide. Imagine.
