I particularly like the chapter on healing the mind by freeing up your mind and making space in order to feel better as an individual and doing positive reinforcement exercises to stay positive . If you feed your body it will allow you to have a healthy mind by sustaining positive thoughts and vice versa. I recommend this book a great read

I'm especially excited about the Italian Wedding soup and Cabbage salad." --Inklings and Notions

Almost 50 At-Home Chefs' Recipes from NY By Conny “It’s amazing to see that no matter how far we are apart geographically that we all have some similarities in our food,” Craig Chapman writes in the introduction to his cookbook, Real Food Real Kitchens New York Cookbook.~ What ~At two-hundred-and-eight pages, this paperback targets those interested in food recipes from residents living in New York. With a quarter to full-page, full-color photographs that cover each of the complete meals as well as the cooks and their families, there are almost fifty recipes. After forewords by Regina S. Bernard-Carreno and Marie A. Bragg and an introduction, the book is divided into five locations: Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Each at-home chef is written about on a personal level and why the dishes are selected. The recipes are listed by ingredients used first, followed with directions. With New York being such a cauldron of ethnic backgrounds, some of the recipes include Italian Wedding Soup, Tofu Planks, Black Rice (Djon Djon), Fuzzy Squash Broth, Ethel’s Guyanese Pepper Pot, Cajun Shrimp Scampi, Carbonnade Flamande, and Sicilian Rice Balls.~ Why ~Since the author and photographer go into each of the chefs’ homes, watch them prepare the meal, and sit down with their family, this is truly a family, food, culture, and history book as intended. I love viewing and reading the eclectic collection of food choices.~ Why Not ~With these recipes not being tested by professional chefs, some may not want to try them. Not including preparation or total time, serving size, or caloric information, the book may not be good for a novice cook.~ Who ~Author Chapman is an award-winning television and film executive producer and magazine editor who has worked twenty years in New York. Photographer York was born and lives in New York and is known for his portraits, street photography, and music scene documentation.~ Wish ~I am looking forward to other cities spotlighted in this cookbook series.~ Want ~If you are looking for a down-home recipe book from residents in New York, this one is a thoughtful gift that covers a plethora of ethnic flavors. Thanks to Cedar Fort for furnishing this complimentary book in exchange for a review of the reader’s honest opinion.Rating: 4.5 stars of 5

The recipients are wonderful and easy to follow (especially the honey roasted Brussels sprouts) But it is more than just recipes, it provides the stories of the families that make them so you get a little taste of the culture with every recipe you try and story you read. It highlights everything that makes New York special - the mix of people and places that make this one of the best cities in the county...and this book is like NYC in.culinary form! Great buy and a wonderful book to have or gift to someone that is learning to cook or interested in learning about food from around the world.

Phillips I bought this book at a bookstore where the author was doing a book signing. I have read and enjoyed all the stories and made a list of recipes to try. I tried the first one last night. Who ever knew chicken adobo was so easy to make. I actually have the ingredients for many of the recipes in my kitchen. There are some that use unusual ingredients, which I will try because l like trying new foods. The stories brought me fond memories of my own family traditions and inspired me to create new ones.

Anatomically correct: An unsurpassed treatise of the human body   We owe a great debt to Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797–1849) for his Atlas of Anatomy, which was not only a massive event in medical history, but also remains one of the most comprehensive and beautifully illustrated anatomical treatises ever published.Bourgery began work on his magnificent atlas in 1830 in cooperation with illustrator Nicolas Henri Jacob (1782–1871), a student of the French painter Jacques Louis David. The first volumes were published the following year, but completion of the treatise required nearly two decades of dedication; Bourgery lived just long enough to finish his labor of love, but the last of the treatise’s eight volumes was not published in its entirety until five years after his death. The eight volumes of Bourgery’s treatise cover descriptive anatomy, surgical anatomy and techniques (exploring in detail nearly all the major operations that were performed during the first half of the 19th century), general anatomy and embryology, and microscopic anatomy. Jacob’s spectacular hand-colored, life-size lithographs are remarkable for their clarity, color, and aesthetic appeal, reflecting a combination of direct laboratory observation and illustrative research. Unsurpassed to this day, the images offer exceptional anatomical insight, not only for those in the medical field but also for artists, students, and anyone interested in the workings and wonder of the human body.   About the Series:Bibliotheca Universalis — Compact cultural companions celebrating the eclectic TASCHEN universe at an unbeatable, democratic price!Since we started our work as cultural archaeologists in 1980, the name TASCHEN has become synonymous with accessible, open-minded publishing. Bibliotheca Universalis brings together nearly 100 of our all-time favorite titles in a neat new format so you can curate your own affordable library of art, anthropology, and aphrodisia.Bookworm’s delight — never bore, always excite!   Text in English, French, and German

She LOVES it. While this is not an academic reference book for a current student, she confirmed that the pictures are very accurate and useful. The hand drawn pictures are gorgeous.Note: The book is roughly 8x6x2in. It could be a good coffee table book, but may be on the small side.

It is thick and solid and the pages are heavy and good quality. And oh my, the pictures are AMAZING. I purchased the Atlas of Human Anatomy and Surgery for my ER nurse husband as a birthday present and we can't stop looking at it. The information is so interesting, the diagrams are so precise and colorful; it's really surprising it isn't far more expensive. If you have a friend in the medical field I think this is a great gift option.

Very quickly too.I am NOT a patient of the doctor, but I have been following the method of eating in this book several months before this book came out. I arrived at this diet by studying research on the gut microbiome and figuring out how to implement that research into my own eating. The amazing thing to me is that the doctor's recommended diet and conclusions are similar to my own. And what he has observed in his patients is exactly what I have observed of myself.I have spontaneously lost a lot of weight and six inches off my waistline. My lipids are great, but were statin worthy before I started. I have lost hypoglycemia, allergies of all types, and simply feel great. I felt I was a very healthy person before I started, but the list of improved things is very long.I say "spontaneously" because, as the doctor states, this is not a diet requiring calorie counting. It does not require restricting any particular macronutrient. You eat what you normally eat (minus bad foods listed by the doctor, but this was not a big deal for me) but add gut friendly foods. The emphasis is on inulin, found in garlic, onions, asparagus, and such. I'll add dandelion greens because I enjoy them and they are a better source than a few of the others mentioned. Also probiotic foods. I will also point out that some Korean markets have leek kimchi and scallion kimchi, so one can get a dose of inulin along with the probiotics. Plus authentic Korean kimchi to me is better than the health-store "kimchi".I found that I was losing weight, about 2 lbs per week. Without doing anything other than making sure I got plenty of gut friendly foods. Then my tastes started changing. I'd get out of the blue cravings. One was for raw honey (sorry doc, I know it is on your bad list, but my gut wanted it). I've never eaten it raw since an allergic reaction some time ago. One tablespoon, and that's what I needed. Other similar cravings. Soon I learned to listen to my gut and let it tell me what I needed. It's almost a dialogue between my brain and my gut. I eat what I want, but to be frank what I want is good, healthy food. Now my weight is stable at a healthy level. I eat what I want. But what I want is different from before. I want onions. I want garlic. I want all the good stuff that feeds the gut. The doctor says at various stages you can deviate 90% or 70% from the diet. The funny thing to me is these deviation numbers also seem automatic - I'd say they are about right, but the gut stops you from going to far. It's not something I have to think about.I try to get as much of my fiber as possible from real food. But there are some advantages to supplementation as well. I was previously hypoglycemic, but my symptoms did not fully disappear until I started taking glucomannan. Also, for those of us with cholesterol issues, there are several fibers of benefit. These additional fibers are not in the book.I end with a quotes from the book that perfectly reflects my experience:"Restoring their intestinal health and balancing the microbiome frees them from cravings and compulsions while putting them in touch with what their body needs and wants. It's almost as if they have awakened their 'inner nutritionist', instinctively seeking foods they need to remain healthy, energized, and fit." Exactly! We discovered it independently, but the doctor has a great book!

Works But With Long Term Benefits By Talvi The microbiome Diet, though very science sounding, is actually a diet uniquely suited for those who have tried various diets in the past and never found results. It's a new approach built upon the principle that the obesity problem many are facing is due to the digestive system being compromised by the foods we are eating - leading to leaky gut, inflammation, increased hunger and cravings, and other health problems ranging from soreness to lack of concentration. The way our food is processed in the body is greatly aided and abetted by microbiomes - bacteria in the gut. When there is an imbalance (lack of certain bacteria or too many bad ones), our health suffers and we gain weight. The diet is based around "Four Rs": 1) Remove the unhealthy bacteria and the foods that unbalance the microbiome; 2) Replace the digestive enzymes that you need for optimal digestion; 3) Reinoculate with probiotics (intestinal bacteria) and prebiotics 9foods and supplements that nourish this bacteria and keep it healthy); 4) Repair the lining of your intestinal walls, which have likely become permeable and are releasing partially digested food into the bloodstream and causing major problems like inflammation. The diet has three phases. In the first, you avoid sugar, eggs, soy, gluten, and dairy (as well as all packaged/artificial foods). This is the heart of the four Rs above. Phase 2 is the metabolic boost. You eat a wider range of foods and introduce some items like milk and eggs. Phase 3 is about maintaining healthy weight loss. You eat about 70% of the phase 2 foods and then some 'goodies' in between. The diet is set up to cleanse the system of the bad stuff, heal your gut, and in the process wean you off the items that cause the insatiable cravings and hunger. At the same time, improve all over health. Recipes and a meal plan are given at the beginning, as well as a shopping list for each stage. Recipes are set up to be made quickly and easily using fairly staple foods. Chicken, salads, seafood, etc.For the recipes, I had a few problems with the directions (e.g., I have no idea what I'm doing when I'm told to "deglaze the vinegar"). As well, with a few I wasn't really sure what was going on (e.g., I'm told to saute garlic and then add wet Kale and let it simmer - but I'm not quite sure how wet the kale should be?). But on the whole, I was able to follow the recipes and they satisfied me - I wasn't left hungry. There were no surprises here - a lot of the recipes are superfood centered, so you'll see similar iterations in other cookbooks that focus on organic and superfoods like cruciferous vegetables and legumes). I wish there was more information about substitutions (e.g., I can't eat seafood and when given an ingredient like apple cider vinegar, I'd like to know if malt cider is an acceptable alternative.)Although there weren't a lot of exotic ingredients (I wasn't able to get jerusalem artichoke or kimchee at my local store), there are resources on where to get many ingredients. One big downside for me was tracking down the huge amount of supplements, which was 7-10 pills a day and some powders. Be prepared - it is a heavy cost up front (perhaps not as heavy in the long run for good health, though). If you are outside of the US, this will be a hard diet to follow.Recipe examples include: minted fruit salad with brazil nuts, rich vegetable soup, jerk cornish game hen, mussels steamed in beer, gazpacho smoothie, stuffed mushrooms, and snacks such as baked kale chips.I've tried the diet for 3 weeks now and the cravings really do go down. I haven't received all the supplements in the mail or tracked down all the ingredients as of the time of writing this, though, and will update later. But the weight is coming off.If buying the Kindle version, the formatting is a bit harder to read than with the book version, so I recommend the physical copy.Reviewed from an ARC.

I give the writing 3 stars and it probably could have been a simple 10 page essay, BUT let me tell you a few things. I have been on the program for 2 weeks and who knows I may be stuffing my face with gelato tomorrow but right now I feel GOOD! I'm down 12 pounds (I have a lot to lose, you probably won't lose as much). I don't have cravings. I'm sleeping better. I have more energy. I've been out to dinner and to a birthday party and didn't even feel tempted. My memory and brain function are improving and the rosacea on my face is subsiding. There is such a noticeable difference that my husband and my sister-in-law want to try the program too. The strictest "diet" portion of the book only lasts 3 weeks and then you switch to 90% compliance and 10% indulgence. After 7 weeks total you're start 70% compliance and 30% indulgence (within reason of course). Plus you can have avocado, shrimp and butter in the FIRST part of the program. Not bad at all. I will update with my progress in a few weeks. Even if only half of what the doctor says is true it will be a mini-miracle. Think good thoughts for me!Update: I have successfully completed Phase 1 without cravings or cheating! I am now moving into Phase 2. I started this July 7, 2014 and as of August 3, 2014 I am down 19.8 pounds. Everyone keeps complimenting me on my complexion and my mood is wonderful.Update: OK. So the transition did not go well. I had organic corn tortillas and it was like a switch in my head went off and the cravings came back like crazy. I gained back 8 of the pounds I lost and my mood got worse and the Rosacea started coming back. I am now trying to work my way back into the first phase and I am going to stay there for much longer since my problems are so significant and not have any corn when transitioning (I may not even try to transition if it's going as well as before.) I'm not going to lie, it made me really sad because I was doing so WELL and feeling so happy. But I am doing better. However, I can really tell when I eat the foods that impact my gut and I have been doing better with that.Update(11/3/2014): I found out I was not taking enough pro-biotic. I ordered the Gut Pro from Organic 3 recommended in the book but I ordered the capsules which have only 5 billion micros and I was supposed to be taking a minimum of 50 billion. I ordered the powder and I'm hoping that will be more helpful and I am going to try again.

I appreciated the clear descriptions of yoga poses and suggested programs for various conditions, the one for insomnia was of special interest to me.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Excellent guide to yoga practice By Michael Smith I love this book! It's easy to use. It's enjoyable to read. I found the inspirational nature of the content extremely helpful. The book offers practical ideas to improve health with a focus on diabetes, but also offers guidance and inspiration for everyone. The poses are well photographed, offering both technique and the reasoning behind each pose. The spiral bound construction allows the book to lay flat. I was able to refer back easily to other sections of the book.I plan to use this book daily.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Nice Beginning Yoga Book for People With Diabetes By risabq Nice introductory book for people with diabetes who are thinking about adding yoga to their self-care program. The poses in the book are not too difficult and the book provides suggestions for modifying the poses to accommodate many physical limitations. The pictures of the poses are not the most strenuous versions of the poses and are within the capabilities of most people (with practice). The recommended practices are not too vigorous and are targeted toward improving flexibility, balance, and core strength and fairly short (10-45 minutes).

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. Cassidy Kaye knew the instant Tim Duggan walked into the Green Room. Though she was busy doing hair for those participating in the Jackson Hole Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction, her spidey senses never failed to alert her whenever the handsome doctor was nearby.Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him pause in the doorway, a tall man with a thatch of hair the color of mahogany. His hair was cut stylishly short above a face with a strong jaw and straight nose. His hazel eyes looked green at the moment, but she knew they could turn a mesmerizing golden brown in a heartbeat. He was boyishly handsome, down to the sprig of freckles across the bridge of his nose. His gaze scanned the room, his expression solemn. When she'd first heard Tim would be filling in for his friend Liam Gallagher, she'd been stunned and disbelieving. Unlike the other bachelors up for bid this evening, Tim was a family man, a widower with twin seven-year-old daughters. He certainly wasn't a party animal. Other than escorting librarian Jayne Connors to a few social events now and then, he didn't even date. When his gaze settled on her, something that looked almost like relief lifted his lips and she felt warm all over."Back in five," she told Zippy Rogers, a young woman whose thick dark hair practically begged to be placed into a sexy twist.Cassidy wove her way through the small area just off the main ballroom of Spring Gulch Country Club, loving the energy in the air. With each step closer to Tim a different kind of excitement filled her. Embracing the sensation, she sidled up to him."Hi." Cassidy cursed the odd breathlessness that attacked her whenever he was near. To compensate she offered him a cheeky grin. "Word on the street is you're up for bid on the meat market tonight."He winced. She could almost see his mind spinning like a hamster wheel as he attempted to come up with the proper response to her not-so-proper comment."Liam had an allergic reaction." He shifted from one foot to the other. "Right now his face is puffed up like the Incredible Hulk."Liam, an all-around nice guy, was a child psychologist who'd recently returned to Jackson Hole to set up practice. Cassidy felt a stirring of sympathy. "Poor guy.""He hated to back out at the last minute.""If he resembles the Hulk, it was a wise move," Cassidy said matter-of-factly. "For these events, handsome, not hulk, is what brings in the money."Tim's gaze lingered for a moment on the pretty blondes, sensual brunettes and one dazzling redhead getting their hair and makeup done. It slid to the group of young men standing together talking.Other than Liam-the-absent, the guys on the chopping block tonight weren't his buds. These men were businessmen and ski industry people, at least five or six years younger than Tim. His social circle—and hers—was composed primarily of medical professionals and young entrepreneurs with a few attorneys and social workers tossed into the mix.Cassidy fell into the entrepreneur bucket. She owned a successful hair salon—Clippity Do Dah—in downtown Jackson. In the past year she'd expanded into doing hair, nails and makeup for events, such as weddings and other special occasions."I'm not sure exactly what I'm supposed to do." Tim shoved his hands into his pockets and rocked back on his heels. "Liam just told me to show up.""Lexi Delacourt is coordinating tonight's fund-raiser. You know Lexi.""Of course." The lines of strain on Tim's face eased.Lexi was a mutual friend. She was also as classy and elegant as they came. The pretty social worker brought that class and elegance to anything she touched, which meant the auction wouldn't be sleazy. Or at least as non-sleazy as bidding on another human being could be."I'll take you to her." Cassidy looped her arm through his, congratulating herself on so quickly finding a reason to touch him.As always, being this close sent blood coursing through her veins like warm honey. Though Cassidy normally preferred bright colors and flash, Tim's brown trousers and cream-colored shirt suited her just fine. In fact, on him she found the subdued colors incredibly sexy.Cassidy glanced down, wondering if he liked her bright orange skirt that resembled a tutu—complete with tulle—topped by a clingy lime tee. The outfit was one of her faves."This way." Cassidy tugged on his arm.His feet remained firmly planted. "You're busy. I don't want to interrupt."Cassidy looked at him blankly.Tim gestured toward Zippy, who was busily applying another layer of color to her mouth.Cassidy approved of the young woman's efforts. After all, could lips ever be too red?"No worries." She tugged again, more firmly this time, and he moved with her, the faint intoxicating scent of his cologne teasing her nostrils. "Zippy is the last woman up, so I have plenty of time."He nodded. "I just didn't want to disturb you."She smiled to herself. What would he say if she told him everything about him disturbed her, but in only the very best of ways? Cassidy barely resisted the urge to ask. Instead, she steered the conversation in another direction. "How are Esi and Elle?"Tim cocked his head and stared as if she'd spoken a language he hadn't yet mastered."Oh, you mean Esther and Ellyn." Warmth filled his eyes the way it always did whenever he spoke of his daughters. "They're well. Spending the evening with Grandma and Grandpa.""I bet your mother had a coronary when she heard you were filling in for Liam tonight."Cassidy didn't have to be a fly on the wall to know how that discussion had gone down. Suzanne Duggan, retired schoolteacher, helicopter grandmother and all-around pain in the butt would never approve of her doctor son participating in anything as gauche as a bachelor auction, even if it was for a good cause."She didn't say much."Tim may have kept his tone offhand but Cassidy wasn't fooled. Mama bear had definitely given him a few hard swipes of her tongue."What did Jayne think?" This time it was her tone that was carefully neutral. To complete the trifecta, she paired the voice with an interested expression and a slightly raised brow."Jayne?""Jayne Connors," Cassidy prompted. "I didn't think to mention it."Relief surged, as sweet as a bottle of cold beer on a hot summer day. Obviously Tim and Jayne were still casual, though Cass had to wonder for how much longer. It was hard to miss the desire in the librarian's eye whenever her gaze landed on him. Not-so-plain Jayne clearly had Dr. Duggan in her crosshairs."…for such a good cause."Cassidy realized that while her mind was tripping down the plain-Jayne path, Tim had been speaking. Thankfully, thinking on her feet was a specialty of hers. After all, as a hairdresser, she spent a lot of time on her feet."Raising money for the new Women and Children's Center is something I fully support," he continued. Compassion filled those hazel eyes. His caring nature was one more check in his positive column. "For such an affluent community we have so many women and children who struggle…"For a second, her throat constricted and breathing came hard. Instead of remaining stuffed away in a rarely opened file cabinet in her head, the comment brought her own childhood front-and-square.Cassidy plucked the disturbing memories from her head, shoved them back into the file cabinet and firmly shut the drawer. The past had no place in her life. She was all about the present and the future."Lexi is right there." Cassidy gestured with her free hand, wishing the auction registration desk had been farther away. She wasn't ready to release Tim back into the world. These one-on-one times were rare and the warmth of his skin beneath her fingers an unexpected pleasure."I should speak with Lexi." Yet he made no move to step away.Though Cassidy sometimes wondered how she could be the only one to feel the sizzle that was so blatant whenever they stood close, she wasn't foolish enough to entertain the thought that Tim hesitated because he wanted to spend a few more moments with her. He was simply uneasy about what he'd agreed to do and was trying to put off beginning the process for as long as possible."I have this image of standing up there and not getting a single bid." He emitted a slightly embarrassed chuckle. "I'm a middle-aged dad. Who's going to bid on me?"Tim wasn't fishing for a compliment; he wasn't that kind of guy. He obviously had no idea just how appealing he was to the opposite sex."You're thirty-four. You're successful. You're hot."He laughed. "Yeah, right.""If it will ease your mind, I'll start the bidding," she promised him. "Kick things off."Gratitude flooded his face. "You'd do that for me?""Hey." She punched him in the shoulder. "We're buddies."Okay, perhaps that was a stretch, but saying it felt incredibly good."You're a very nice person." His gaze lingered on her face so long that her lips began to tingle. For a second, she had this crazy thought he might kiss her.Instead he squeezed her shoulder and strolled off in Lexi's direction. After Cassidy finished making Zippy even more stunning, she took a few moments to touch up her own makeup and hair. The auction of five women and five men had already started. The order had been predetermined beginning with a female and following a female-male format. Liam, or rather Tim, would be last on the auction block. From the laughter and applause that arose from the ballroom each time the bidding concluded for an individual, Cassidy decided it wouldn't take long to get to Tim.Still, she lingered in front of the long mirror, taking a second to add a touch more orange-marmalade gloss to her mouth before fluffing her hair with her fingers. For the evening festivities, she'd resurrected the true blond of her childhood then tipped the ends with royal blue to match the color of her eyes.Though she often wore glasses in vivid hues or patterns, the frames were a fashion accessory rather than a necessity. Tonight she'd left them in the small apartment over her shop, the place she now called home.Cassidy smiled broadly, making sure there were no lipstick smudges on her teeth. Satisfied, she sauntered into the ballroom on five-inch heels. After obtaining a number for bidding, she secured a spot halfway back from the stage and watched the spirited bidding for a date with Zippy. Mr. Business Exec with the receding hairline and Mr. Snowboarder with the sun-streaked shaggy hair both seemed equally determined to win a date with the beautiful attorney.Zippy was the last woman on the list. The bidding reached one thousand dollars before Business Exec conceded to Snowboarder. Once the applause ended, many of those who'd stayed to watch headed to the adjacent ballroom where silent-auction items flanked the perimeter of the room and a champagne fountain anchored the center. A plethora of hot hors d'oeuvres were dispensed by waiters in black pants and white shirts, holding silver trays.Thankfully, not everyone left in search of food and drink. Cassidy calculated at least a hundred remained in the ballroom when Lexi stepped forward to introduce Tim. The dark-haired social worker, lovely in navy chiffon, included in her introductory remarks that Tim had grown up in Jackson Hole, was a respected member of the medical community and the father of twin girls. The young doctor's face remained calm but Cassidy wasn't fooled. He was nowhere as relaxed and confident as he appeared. Her fingers tightened on the numbered paddle in her hand. She'd made a promise and was ready to do her duty.Nick, Lexi's husband and well-known family law attorney, was serving as the event's guest auctioneer. He took the microphone from his wife and his gaze scanned the audience. "Do I hear a bid of one hundred?"For a second the room was silent. One hundred was the lowest acceptable bid. From what she'd overheard while she waited, the lowest winning bid so far had been three hundred, while eleven hundred was the night's record. Most had come in around five hundred.Cassidy was just lifting her paddle when she saw a redhead off to her right raise hers. She recognized the woman in the sexy black dress that hugged a taut body and emphasized ample breasts. Leila Daltry was a customer at Clippity Do Dah. She stopped by regularly to get her hair cut and for an occasional color boost. A registered nurse, the striking redhead worked in the obstetrics department at the hospital. Though she wasn't the right woman for Tim, Cassidy liked her well enough.Nick asked for a two-hundred-dollar bid. When none was forthcoming he moved into his going once, twice speech. Cassidy stopped him by lifting her number. No way was she letting Leila get Tim that cheap.Leila turned slowly and her cat-green eyes narrowed.Though the RN had always been friendly enough, Cassidy absorbed the feral gleam directed her way and grinned back.If Leila thought a hostile glance could intimidate her, she was mistaken. Cassidy Kaye ate feral cats for breakfast."Three hundred," Nick confirmed when Leila waved her paddle as he upped the bid.The curious gazes of the well-dressed men and women in the room were now shifting between her and Leila. Once again, Nick upped the bid. Without even thinking, Cas-sidy lifted her number."Four hundred is the bid," Nick called out. "Do I hear five?"The redhead hesitated now, her gaze shifting from Tim's impassive expression to Cassidy's cool gaze. Though nurses were paid well, the cost of living in Jackson Hole was through the roof. Five hundred dollars was a lot of money.Leila tossed her head and raised her paddle."We're at five hundred dollars," Nick pronounced. "Will someone give us six?"Let it go, Cassidy told herself. Five hundred was a respectable bid."Going twice," she heard Nick say.Without taking a second to talk herself out of it, Cas-sidy shot her hand into the air."We have six hundred."Leila's head snapped around and the satisfied smirk on her face vanished. If looks could kill, Cassidy would be six feet under."Going once, going twice. Six hundred dollars to number ninety-eight."It was a charitable donation, Cassidy told herself as she wrote out the check. Though she had to admit dropping that amount of money in a single night hurt.Or rather it did until she turned and found Tim standing. Right. There."I'm sorry you got stuck," he said.Normally never at a loss of words, for a second Cassidy could only stare. Her heart gave a painful twist."I mean, I know you were only trying to increase the bid. I can give you the money to—"She shot out a hand, stopping him before he could say more. "You're not getting out of our date that easily. I bought you fair and square, mister."He smiled then, a warm easy lifting of his lips that did strange things to her insides. And when he took her arm, she realized he was worth every penny. They strolled into the ballroom, where they both enjoyed a glass of champagne. After handing the empty glasses to a passing waiter, they wandered out onto the veranda, where the conversation shifted from mutual friends and future events to their upcoming "date.""I'll pay for the evening." Tim's tone brooked no argument. "You pick where we go. Fair?"Cassidy considered for a moment then nodded. The moon bathed his face in a golden glow and a light breeze tousled his hair. He really was a great-looking guy. Not only did he have a fabulous face, his lips were firm and perfectly sculpted. As she stared, she wondered what they would feel like, taste like."Sounds like we've got a deal." He stuck his hand out but she ignored it, keeping her gaze focused on his lips.Cassidy firmly believed hesitating or second-guessing was for wimps. Stepping close, she wrapped her hands around his neck and covered his mouth with hers.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good book. By S. Frank Fun story of opposites attracting. Tim is a doctor and a single dad. His wife died several years earlier and he is determined to concentrate on raising his daughters. When he fills in for a sick colleague at a bachelor auction, he's concerned that he won't do well, since he's older than the other bachelors. He's relieved to see his friend Cassidy, where she is doing the hair and makeup for the bachelorettes. He expresses his concerns and she offers to bid herself if it's needed.Cassidy owns a popular salon and loves what she does. She's always been determined to live her life her way. She likes Tim a lot, even had a crush on him when they were in school. She's happy to relieve his fears about the auction, and surprises herself when she decides to bid on him for real. I really liked Cassidy. She has a style all her own and isn't afraid to display it. She also has made an excellent life for herself, overcoming the issues of her childhood to do it. I loved seeing the way she also gives back to the community, trying to help kids like she had been.I really enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between Tim and Cassidy. They seem like such different people at the start. Cassidy is fun loving and the date she takes Tim on is an eye opener for him. Once he stopped comparing Cassidy to his late wife he really relaxed and started having a good time. Both were surprised by the attraction they felt for each other. Because he doesn't plan to get involved with anyone until the girls are older, Tim tries to resist the attraction, but he can't stop thinking about how much fun he has with her, and gives in to the urge to see her again. Cassidy knows he's not interested in anything permanent, but can't resist spending time with him. At one point their attraction gets the better of their intentions, but then they back off from each other. Then Cassidy discovers she's pregnant. She panics because she doesn't think she has the ability to be a good mother because of her background. When she tells Tim he immediately proposes marriage, because it's the right thing to do. But Cassidy doesn't want marriage without love and turns him down, though agrees that they need to get to know each other better for the sake of the baby. Tim doesn't give up on his plan to marry Cassidy, but keeps quiet about it. Instead he just insists on dating. I loved their dates and seeing how well they really suit each other. I really liked seeing how Tim liked Cassidy for who she was, and didn't think her past was a detriment. I also loved seeing him loosen up and get less concerned with appearances. Cassidy's feelings for Tim continued to grow, but she didn't think love was possible. As they continue seeing each other, both have some issues to overcome. Tim has had little confidence in his ability to balance his work and family, thanks to the attitude of his late wife. It takes him awhile to see that Cassidy is very different. He is also fighting the disapproval of his mother, who doesn't think Cassidy is good enough for him. I loved the way that Tim always came out on Cassidy's side and made sure his mom understood that he wouldn't put up with her attitude. Cassidy's biggest fear is that she will be a terrible mother because of the example set by her own mother. I loved seeing her with Tim's girls and how terrific she was with them. She was a great counterbalance to their grandmother's uptight attitude. I really loved the things they did the afternoon she watched them, and how it showed what a great mom she could be. It was great to see how Tim's confidence in her finally showed her what she could do, I loved Tim's big moment at the end - it was absolutely perfect, and the epilogue was great!

Good Storyline, Bit of a Weak Hero and Slow Pacing By The eBook Investigator Rating - 3.0 - 3.5 StarsTim Duggan has been a widower for four years and is raising twin daughters alone. He has no interest in dating or relationships, thinks he'll never love again and doesn't want to. He is much too busy with his medical practice and his daughters. His plan is to put all that on hold until his girls go to college. He has a long time to wait since they are only seven years old. A friend of his has asked him to take his place at a bachelor and bachelorette auction because of a brief illness. He agrees but is a bit scared and very nervous. His friend and hairstylist, Cassidy Kaye, salon owner has promised to get the bidding started because he fears no one will bid on him. Casey goes up against another young woman who is also bidding on him and Cassidy knows this gal is not the kind of woman that would be good for Tim. Cass outbids the other woman and decides to take the stuffy but good-looking and friendly doctor out on a date he will never forget.Tim and Cass have a blast but she doesn't hear from him after their date even though she would love to see him again and get to know him better. Tim started feeling a bit too much for Cass during their wonderful day together and decided not call her because he tells himself his girls are too young and he is too busy to give a woman the proper attention and support she would need. After all, his wife complained constantly about him not having enough time for her and he won't do that to another woman.I enjoyed the story line and it is one of my favorites. I was also pleased with the growth and development of the characters, although the hero came around a little too slowly. What I did not care for:1. Slow and draggy. I have read three other books in this series and everyone moved much too slowly for my taste. It could have easily been covered in the shorter Harlequin that has approx 192 pages. Some areas seemed like wash-rinse-repeat over and over. I honestly don't plan on continuing with this series because I become too frustrated with the pacing.2. For me, the hero was a bit too week. There were many times he should have stood up to his horrid mother and told her what was what but instead he listened and even though he didn't think it would influence him, it certainly did. His mom would say horrible things about Cass and call her awful names and then he wouldn't call her for a couple of weeks. He let it affect him in a negative way. That is simple weakness to me. This kind of thing happened several times and it made him appear untenable, a mamma's boy, unmanly if you will. He should have given his mother an ultimatum and threatened to keep the children away from her if she could not behave. That is a turn off for this reader. When you consider how strong, independent and outspoken the heroine was, I feel she needed and deserved a stronger male for her counterpart and one that could bluntly tell his witch of a mother to butt the heck out of his life.

The problem is you have to know HOW to use them to get the most benefit from having them. She would talk to me about meditation, natural products, and slowing down my life. A decade later, I woke up one morning to the decision of trying things her way... holistic approach. This is when she introduced the 1st Edition of Healing: Heal Your Mind, Heal Your Body, Love Your Life. It's amazing how when you take time to dissect your life and get rid of things that are harmful, your whole body changes. Meditation is like prayer, very rewarding. Learning how to breathe in life and exhale the toxins (stress) can be a day changer. I no longer need my antidepressants and I now feel like I have a whole new outlook on life.Assess Your LifeUnderstand How the Body HealsLearn How to BreatheDiscover Essential Breathing and Meditation ExercisesStudy the Mind Body ConnectionUnderstand the Past, Present, and FutureLearn Exercises to Take with You Wherever You Go

Sometimes, it really can be easy to forget in the modern world of doctors, pills, and excessive medical procedures how intimately connected our minds and bodies are, and how much impact the state of the mind has on the state of the body. This book lays out, in a very systematized and easy to understand manner, exactly how people may begin to access their innate potential to heal themselves from within. Even if you are in perfect health, this book is well worth a read, as it offers some excellent techniques for just getting away from the distractions of daily life, relaxing, and getting perspective on life, something many of us lose sight of all too often. Overall, this book offers the reader an excellent look at holistic health, as well as several practical and easy to implement exercises and techniques to help the human body make optimal use of its natural potential for healing, as well as help individuals to lead a more healthy lifestyle altogether.
