About the Author Kyle Fleishman was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1974. He attended the University of Calgary and graduated with a degree in Kinesiology in 1997 and also attended the University of British Columbia and graduated with a law degree in 2001. He lives with his family in Calgary, where he is at work on a new novel.

Action packed from start to finish By Laurel Horan Drink Dirt Eat Stone was so much more than the action suspense thriller type novel that I initially anticipated when reading the teaser. The main character is larger than life but you feel for Tristan's many hardships, trials and growth as the novel evolves through his current situations as well as during his flashbacks. It is ultra graphic in the way the violent scenes are described. Even though he was a hired killer for many years, you know that there is more to his story. As the story goes on you learn about his past and learn about the forces driving him in the present and how they are intertwined. I can honestly say that I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to see what would happen next and how everything would turn out. Can't wait to read more books by this author!!

I’m happy to say it was a great read. I really felt compelled to finish this book in one sitting. I enjoyed the writing style, getting inside the mind of A monster of a man that is capable could execute another characters at any moment. The excitement of his rampage really pulled me in to the book. He leads a very hard life and yet walks the line of father and a life of crimes and murder in a fantastical way.It's the story of Tristan, an ex hitman attempting to get out of the game of murder. His daughter, the inspiration to get out of the biz, drives him to be a changed man. But in order to get out, he is forced to execute his skills in the best ways he knows how. He is a loving father who just wants his life back. There is a lot of good intentions here for a man that is willing to kill when faced with the threat of violence. The book feels a bit like a combination of True Lies in that the character are making decisions that are clearly unavoidable action forcing the plot to resolve in a way that allows this ex hitman to display his skills for the reader. I love the excitement this brings to the reader. Tristan’s methods in conflict resolution are epic.The character development that goes in to the main characters is really well written. You really do feel for the plight of Tristan. He had a terrifying upbringing. This is the foundation for how he comes to be a trully deadly hitman. It was entertaining to feel the characters dynamics as a hitman interacting with people that cross him. It is easy to route for him fighting back as the underdog in the situations he falls in to. He is a well written character and I am looking forward to more stories about him.It was enjoyable at every turn. I am looking forward to reading more from the author.

Stonehorse: Not Just a Brutal Name By Jennifer Teeter-Moore Drink Dirt, Eat Stone, by Kyle Fleishman, is the exciting story of Tristan, an ex-hitman who is trying to get out of the game and build a relationship with his daughter. But the only way he can start fresh is by killing the men who are out for his life. The title and the synopsis of this novel don’t leave much to guesswork. When I opened the first page, I expected a lot of killing and a lot of language. In that regard, it exceeded my expectations. But it’s what else this novel brought to the table that really threw me off guard. Tristan Stonehorse isn’t just a brutal name that sounds good for a character who kicks ass through any obstacle thrown his way. Tristan is a loving father who just wants peace in his life, if only people didn’t keep trying to kill him!Tristan is First Nations, an ex-convict, and very poor; but Tristan does not let his disadvantages make him weak. Tristan made a few missteps in life, but he really wants to have a fresh start with his daughter. I appreciated this character because he is not just one-dimensional character; he has many layers.Before I read, Drink Dirt Eat Stone I thought that First Nations people had a pretty good life in Canada. In the US, American Indians are looked down upon and treated terribly. We took away their land and killed their people, leaving them with little else but gravestones and poor excuses for farmland. I learned a lot from this book about First Nations people and how horribly they are treated as well. Tristan grew up on a reservation and went to residential school (religious boarding school and very abusive). As a result of his rough upbringing, Tristan fell into bad circles. He joined a gang, sold meth, and killed people (a lot of people). We see windows into this hard past of Tristan throughout the book, but with character traits that remind me of a Liam Neeson film, he is only using these skills now to start a better life with his daughter. Fleishman does a great job of giving all parts of Tristan’s story. Yes, Tristan made bad choices but he tries to rise above those mistakes.There was a lack of character development in the novel and some of the dialogue and fight scenes are cheesy, but Tristan was a solid character from the beginning so I do not think he needed to be developed much more. Plus, seeing how Tristan used to be from flashbacks gave me an idea of why he became who he is. The author does a great job of unveiling more about Tristan's past and the driving plot throughout the book, so I was engaged the entire time. The cheesy scenes are to be expected in action novels – even The Da Vinci Code can be cheeseball at times – and the interesting plot and strong themes more than made up for them (as did the wisecrack jokes). Kyle Fleishman did a great job of writing a strong character and a very interesting plot.I would definitely recommend this novel.
