About the Author Robert Yune was born in Seoul, South Korea. As a Navy brat, he traveled around the world, moving 11 times by the time he turned 18.
Yune has published fiction in The Kenyon Review, The Los Angeles Review, and Avery, among others. In 2008, he received a fellowship from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. In 2012, he was a finalist for the Flannery O’Connor Award in Short Fiction and was one of five finalists for the Prairie Schooner Book Prize, selected by Sherman Alexie and Colin Channer.
From 2010-2013, Yune served as fiction editor of The Fourth River. He has worked as a behavioral health researcher, a census enumerator, and a stand-in for George Takei. He currently lives and teaches in Pittsburgh.

Fabulous novel that reads like a memoir By Tracey My sister, who works with the author, gave me this book, along with a glowing verbal recommendation. I set it aside after I read the description on the back. Fortunately, a couple of days in bed due to illness prompted me to pick it up. I really loved this book!!! As I read it, thoroughly enjoying every descriptive passage and sentence, I kept thinking of other authors who have given me the same uplifting sensation of being in the presence of a real artist....Sherman Alexie, Anne Dillard, Anne Lamott, Will Cather all come to mind. Robert Yune has captured an era and a familial relationship so perfectly that when I was finished reading, I felt that I had been there. I was that Korean boy/man, raised by a stranger, coming of age across Pennsylvania. This is coming from a 55 year old Caucasian woman, raised in a 2 parent family of 7 children, who came of age, well, in Pennsylvania, (but that was the only thing I had in common with the novel).I am a lover of well written sentences, phrases, passages, stories... and they are all here in this book. "The Steele City directs you into a tunnel and appears fully formed after a tiled fluorescent purgatory..." one of the sentences that struck me as completely perfect, especially if you know Pittsburgh. Thanks to my sister for the recommendation and thanks to Robert Yune for the joyride!!!

Robert Yune beautifully captures setting By Ronna Edelstein In Eighty Days of Sunlight, Robert Yune beautifully captures setting, character, and plot. Yune's descriptions of Pittsburgh, including the Oakland neighborhood, especially resonated with me, a native Pittsburgher. I also related to his focus on family and the search for identity. Eighty Days of Sunlight provided me with many pleasurable hours of reading.

Two Korean American brothers are separated by fate and reunited by their father's death in a post industrial wasteland of Pennsylvania . The brothers reunite at college in the densely populated Oaklandneighborhood of Pittsburgh. They grapple with drugs, drinking, relationships, and the violence of Tommy's past and present. All Jason and Tommy have is each other, but that may not be enough. Yune's characters are real: no bulls***. This novel has a backnone of steel but it will break hearts.
