A Time of Change is a perfect example of Aimee and David Thurlos's ability to combine passion with tension as they introduce readers to Josephine Buck and other employees at a New Mexico trading post. When The Outpost's owner dies, Josephine, a young Navajo woman, is shocked to discover that Tom Stuart, whom she thought of as a surrogate father, has left her the business.

Ben Stuart and his dad had had problems, but military service changed Ben for the better and put the two men back in each other's lives. His father's sudden death ends any possibility of a true reconciliation and leaves Ben fuming at being disinherited.

Suspecting that Jo had an affair with his father, Ben is determined to get control of the trading post. Jo's hataalii training shows her that Ben is wounded in both body and soul, and she becomes determined to help him.

As Jo and Ben move toward a deeper understanding of each other, they learn that Tom Stuart was murdered and that the trading post at the center of their lives holds many secrets.

A Time of Change: A Trading Post Novel, by Aimée Thurlo, David Thurlo

From Booklist For readers familiar with the Ella Clah mystery series, this may seem like Ella lite. There’s a bit of Navajo culture, to be sure, but it’s very watered down compared to what the Ella Clah books usually offer. The plot is nowhere near as developed as they are in the Thurlos’ Clah or Sister Agatha series. But for what it mostly is, a Harlequin-level romance with some mystery elements, it works. Two high-school sweethearts are reunited by the death of the father of one of them, Ben, now a soldier bound for Afghanistan. His former love interest, Josephine, worked at the Navajo trading post owned by Ben’s father. Josephine discovers the body of Tom Stuart in the house behind the outpost. Police initially dismiss Tom’s death as a suicide, until they’re told that Tom was left-handed (an incredibly creaky plot device) and couldn’t have fired the gun from the position in which his body was found. Ben and Josephine join forces, of course, to solve the crime, but mostly this is a romance with misunderstandings, obstacles, dangers, and plenty of smoldering looks. For romance readers and die-hard Thurlo fans. --Connie Fletcher

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Their best book yet! By A. Bennett I've read almost all of Aimee and David Thurlo's books, from their Ella Clah and Sister Agatha series to Aimee's Harlequin Intrigue novels. "A Time of Change" incorporates the best of both worlds!Set in the Navajo Nation, "A Time of Change" tells the story of The Outpost, a trading post run by Tom Stuart. Though Tom's murder is what spurs the action in the story, he is as much a leading character as Jo Buck, Tom's employee and apprentice medicine woman. His spirit pervades every chapter as Jo and Tom's estranged son, Ben, back from Afghanistan on compassionate leave, work together despite their differences and painful pasts to find justice for the man they both loved.Though danger threatens The Outpost, Jo, Ben, and a wonderfully engaging cast of characters, work together, despite their own personal hardships and struggles to save The Outpost and each other from the enemy that threatens to destroy Tom's dream and their lives and livelihood. In the process, they become a stronger family unit and Jo and Ben find that the love they once shared will give them the strength to carry on Tom's vision. If you love the Southwest, if you love romance, if you love mystery and suspense... you've found it in "A Time of Change"!
