About the Author English teacher by day, tale spinner by night, Jo Victor is old enough to know better but still too young to care. She has been writing more or less seriously since she was in her teens and likes to think she is carrying on the family storytelling tradition that goes back to her Italian grandmother. When not fighting the good fight on behalf of black ink on white paper, she enjoys folk music, British humor, and excessive novel reading, all of which she highly recommends. She lives with her life partner in Virginia.

A Superb Idea That Falls Short By FarNerdy Note: This ARC was provided by NetGalley & Bold Strokes Books in exchange for an honest review.The initial idea and concept for this novel was intriguing and grabbed my interest immediately. Old literature, hidden history, a young woman attempting to break the seal on the secrets of the past - it all sounds fantastic. However, upon reading this novel, I feel slightly like a victim stolen of a good read. This book had so much potential, and Jo Victor can write well, you can witness it in the pages. But the overall story was choppy, lacked fluidity, was difficult to follow and understand page after page, and often felt as if the nuances and subjects that should be further explained were left in the dust to filler and fodder meant to make the book "large". I am awarding this novel 3 stars due to the talent that is seen and exercised from the author herself. Certain areas of the story were well-described, with beautiful language and intricate detail. Ms Victor gave voice to a character I've always had a soft spot for - a young scholar with ambitions similar to my own, and a lesbian to boot. But with that being said, and the obvious talent bubbling underneath the surface - this novel only made me frustrated and left with a feeling of neglect once I reached the end. I will say again - this novel had incredible potential - but unfortunately, it fell short of its hype.

I don't even remember that being mentioned. Having just finished a book set in a library, the cover art drew me it. I have to say, I'm not a big fan of LGBTQ because it degenerates into bad erotica. Nevertheless, I was pleasently surprised by Jo Victor's work. This is a relationship between two people....that they are a same-sex couple doesn't matter. It's a "rippin' good read', and I strongly recommend it (note:for adults due to sexuality). Well done!
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. For those who love arguing with their flirting By Dena Hankins I really liked these characters...my biggest requirement in reading romance. Second, I did want them to end up together, though I wouldn't want to be with either of them. Their sharp tongues would exhaust me, but for the length of this book, they were delightful. I very much enjoyed how they could both argue and flirt, show their attraction (to each other and the reader) and still have real reasons to worry it may not work out.
