About the Author Historian by training, globe-trotting university project manager by necessity, and fiction writer by the skin of her teeth, Mindy Quigley has had a colorful career. She has won a number of awards for her short stories, including the 2013 Bloody Scotland prize. Her non-fiction writing includes an academic article co-authored with the researcher who created Dolly the Sheep. More recently, she was project manager of the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic, a research clinic founded in Scotland by the author J.K. Rowling. A true cozy mystery–no foul language, no sexual content, and no graphic violence, that follows the life of a minister’s daughter and hospital chaplain, Lindsay Harding. Lindsay doesn’t act how you would think a chaplain should act, she’s much more human, which is refreshing and realistic. I enjoyed Dunette and Simmy also. I couldn’t help but be disappointed in some of the people that should be more supportive of her — her mother, her boyfriend, which made me feel like I was part of her inner circle. Good job by the author. The book rose slowly to a climax, then settled back down nicely. I especially enjoyed the moments where the book became “thriller-like” with a lot of action. I wish I had read the first two in the series and I can’t wait to see what happens in Book #4.Disclaimer: I received this book in exchange for an honest review as part of a book tour. Pate I was lucky enough to receive a pre-published copy of this manuscript, and I couldn’t be happier that Lindsay Harding, the Reverend magnet of mayhem, is back with some further adventures. Being the third in the series, the characters are as familiar as well-worn sneakers. It feels a bit like grabbing a beer at Merlot’s in Bon Temps and checking in on the locals. There is plenty of material to keep Lindsay’s mind reeling, however, with deathbed confessions and breathtakingly gorgeous strangers on the scene. The thing I have always liked most about these novels, is their easy, accessibility. You could fully enjoy this book without having read the others, although I firmly recommend that you start at the beginning. It feels so nice to submerse yourself in a light, mystery read in between the washing, the cooking, the help with homework, and the constant household mediating. I actually took a break from the heavy-going toil of Mantel’s Wolf Hall in order to indulge in this gem of a treat. It was like coming up from air after a forced submersion in boggy sea-brine. The subject matter may deal with all things mysterious, but the writing is not in the least convoluted or pretentious. It’s real life conversation and emotion. It’s relatable, but with a murderous edge. I have decided that this is my favorite of the three books. It deals with a well-researched and highly neglected historical subject. It’s always good when you can feel as if you’re learning something, even when choosing something light and stress-free to read.

Good mystery By Rhonda 4 STARSThis is the first book of the Lindsay Harding mystery that I have read, while it does a good job standing alone I wish I had read the first two books in the series.The mysteries are confusing and I was really lost on who were the good guys and who not too trust.I was confused about who would Lindsay be better off with. Who does she really want or what does she want. I guess she has gone through a lot of trials this year.Lindsay Harding is the main character. She is a chaplain at the hospital. That would be a tough job. She has been dealing with some depression from events that happened in the first two books. Her boyfriend is confused by his love life too.Lindsay is staying with her father while she is getting some remodeling done so her grandmother can move in with her. Her mother is in prison.A patient in the hospital starts to confess to something but does not come out and tell her everything before he dies. Did he really confess to murder or just hiding the body.I like the characters and want to see where they go from here. Who belongs together? Who can Lindsay turn to when things go wrong with her life?This is a clean read that is full of drama, history and mystery. I had never heard of the historical people and natives before. I would like to read more up on the Lowery band or Lowery war.I was given The Burnt Island Burial Ground to read and in return I agreed to give a honest review and be part of it's blog tour.

I'm a huge fan of B. L. Wilson ,so I knew the book would be good, but I didn't expect this good! Although it started off kind of slow, once you get into it... You won't get enough of the characters in the book! Melba was by far my favorite and I would love to read a part 2!

About the Author

Tudor O. Bompa, PhD, revolutionized Western training methods when he introduced his groundbreaking theory of periodization in Romania in 1963. After adopting his training system, the Eastern Bloc countries dominated international sports through the 1970s and 1980s. In 1988, Dr. Bompa applied his principle of periodization to the sport of bodybuilding. He has personally trained 11 Olympic medalists (including four gold medalists) and has served as a consultant to coaches and athletes worldwide.

Dr. Bompa’s books on training methods, including Theory and Methodology of Training: The Key to Athletic Performance and Periodization of Training for Sports, have been translated into 17 languages and used in more than 130 countries for training athletes and educating and certifying coaches. Bompa has been invited to speak about training in more than 30 countries and has been awarded certificates of honor and appreciation from such prestigious organizations as the Argentinean Ministry of Culture, the Australian Sports Council, the Spanish Olympic Committee, the International Olympic Committee, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

A member of the Canadian Olympic Association and the Romanian National Council of Sports, Dr. Bompa is professor emeritus at York University, where he has taught training theories since 1987. He and his wife, Tamara, live in Sharon, Ontario.

Michael Carrera is a certified exercise physiologist and personal trainer with vast experience as a health, fitness, and weight-loss expert. He has published two books and produced DVDs integrating spirituality with weight training and fitness. He coauthored the second edition of Periodization Training for Sports (Human Kinetics, 2005).

Carrera is widely recognized in the media, having appeared as an expert on numerous radio and television programs, including morning shows, specialty channels, and radio. He has been a contributor in national publications such as Men’s Health, Canadian Living, Alive, and the National Post.

Carrera created and implemented corporate wellness programs and health management strategies for top Canadian companies. He has also created more than 14,000 exercise programs for health and fitness websites such as TrueStar Kids and has overseen fitness and weight-loss centers catering to women across Canada.

By Gene O'Donnell An excellent book, practical but expertly structured and easy to follow, it is possible to read it and also use it as a reference or a guide to double check your own ideas and practices as a youth coach. An invaluable resource, I would highly recommend it.

She loves her life with her boyfriend Dane and is content in their relationship. Everything changes dramatically however when Ella's younger sister, Tara, has a baby, Luke, and Ella is forced to take care of him. Suddenly, Ella's neat and orderly life is interrupted with bottles, nightly feedings, little sleep, and a small but growing baby.Ella is determined to do her best by Luke and Tara and she decides the best choice is to find the father. When Tara names wealthy playboy Jack Travis as the father, Ella marches down to his Houston office to get answers. Jack denies that he is Luke's father straight away, but Ella wants a paternity test. Jack agrees knowing he is not the father. But he sure would not mind spending more time with the feisty Ella. Jack is used to arm candy in the women he dates. Ella is anything but that. She is intelligent, strong-minded, and determined to never truly lose herself to a man. Let the battle of wills commence!Smooth Talking Stranger is not as intense as the previous Travis story, Blue-Eyed Devil. There is more laughter and a lightness that Haven's story lacked, which makes sense given the very different plots of the story. While I definitely enjoyed Smooth Talking Stranger, it did not pull me in quite as much as Haven and Hardy's story. This is a romance that skims along the surface rather than delves deep into the characters' hearts and souls. This is not a bad thing but it is just a major difference. Jack and Ella's story is very enjoyable, and perhaps the most romantic out of all of Lisa Kleypas's contemporary romances but it just did not totally grab me.That being said, it is still a Kleypas story and considering some of the romance drivel that is published, this book stands heads and tails above others. Ella is an interesting woman to get to know. She feels the pull of love, not only for Jack, but for Luke, but she wants to heartily deny it. She plays her emotions close to the vest while Jack is very free with his feelings, letting her know just how much he has started to love her. Jack is definitely the charmer and rascal he was in previous books as a secondary character, but there is a more serious side that is a welcome addition to his character. He is not perfect and as some of his previous relationships come back to haunt him, he gets a better understanding for just why Ella is so much more right for him.Smooth Talking Stranger has its swoon-worthy moments and it showcases Lisa Kleypas's fun and unique writing style. I liked the characters and particularly the ending which just seemed very appropriate and wonderful for the overall tone of the book. Love comes in many forms as Ella is about to discover.

By weathered1 This was by far my favorite of Lisa Kleypas' contemporary novels, which is saying a lot, because I've really enjoyed the others. I did not expect to love this book as much as I did, but Ella and Jack are such well-drawn characters - the reader gets a very real sense of who they are as people, and what has led to them being who they are. Both are flawed, but in a way that makes them all the more real, and they don't judge each other, but demonstrate a very real, very deep, mutual sense of understanding and acceptance.Plus, their banter is fantastic! They're both incredibly bright and funny, and a lot of their conversations and back-and-forth snark are a lot of fun to read. That said, Kleypas doesn't skimp on meaningful conversations, either; Ella and Jack have many serious, meaningful talks that give us real insight into their ever-growing and intensifying feelings for one another.The actual progression of their relationship is very well done. It does not move at a snail's pace, but it doesn't happen overnight, either. The reader is treated to seeing how their initial attraction to, and wariness of, one other develops into real friendship and trust, heat and passion, a breaking down of old walls and defenses, and a truly beautiful, strong love. Kleypas does all of this while managing to avoid a cliche or two that are repeated ad nauseum in books that feature alpha male playboys, and does so in such a way as to turn those cliches to her advantage, and strengthen the bond between the characters.Then, too, there is involvement by other members of the Travis family (particularly Haven), and their significant others/spouses. It was a great to read about how their lives have grown and changed, and Kleypas integrated them very well into Jack and Ella's story.This book was very good - in fact, it's one of the best romances that I've ever read. I *highly* recommend this book to all of those who are looking for a novel featuring real, deep love and romance; fun and playfulness; intense passion and need; some heart-string tugging events; and even some suspense. Kleypas truly outdid herself with this book!

11 of 13 people found the following review helpful. I want more! By Kathy L. Bender I've read all three of Lisa Kleypas' contemporaries and I want more! Each one of these books were page turners. In fact, I left "Blue Eyed Devil" at a house I was visiting in another state. I was about half way through and had to go out and purchase a new one because I couldn't wait to finish the book. "Smooth Talking Stranger" was even better than the first two. I love the premise where the rich guy doesn't buy into the beautiful women who want nothing more from a man than sex and a thick wallet. Jack is probably too macho, but he makes up for it with his sincerity, his deep love and his ability to express that love in the most romantic ways. What a great proposal! I loved it and I didn't want to finish the book because I didn't want it to end. I've read the last three chapters five times since I finished the book a few days ago.I hope Lisa Kleypas continues to write about the Travises. Is Joe next?
