Surpassed my expectations By jeff As an addiction counselor in America, I know the statistic of my country with substance addiction alone: 20 million Americans are alcohol dependent or drink enough alcohol to be at risk of impaired health. Another 6-8 million are addicted to other drugs. The chemical dependents suffer, as well as the 70 million people who have close relationships with them. With a library of books on addiction attempting to explain correlation, causality, and methods of healing, I was both apprehensive and eager to explore John’s perspective on addiction. Apprehensive because even professionals in the field don’t all agree on a definition of addiction and what works. From the statistics above if what we’re being told works, actually worked, I’m guessing the statistics would be very different. Eager because I sensed there was a more empowering way to understand addiction and empowering method to heal from it. John’s book surpassed my expectations. Check out his website at www.beawarebealive.comAs addiction counselors we are trained to work with a client’s belief systems, self-talk (thinking process), behavior, and life situation. What I’ve realized from reading John’s book is that these 4 areas in a client’s process loop, and continue to loop. Not being able to get out of the loop is the addiction, which includes most all of us. Even with the best of progress from numerous evidenced based techniques to address each of the 4 areas, if we cannot get out of this loop we remain limited. We stay addicted. The evolution of our soul is limited. For people with a sliver of openness, John’s book shines light on a path towards a deeper connection to self and meaning, and out of the addictive looping.sjeffjones.com

John puts you in tune with the presence of who you truly are, the observer. The true self, not the ego self who we have learned to become. "We are so much greater than who we have learned to become" is a forever changing message in this book. We are simply the ones who are aware of life.Please. Recommend this book to anyone who wants to become more self aware and help lead themselves towards positive life change. Although the vocabulary is rather mature the message is simple and can be passed through any reader. I promise this book will cause a complete shift in consciousness.Thank you so much John, bright bright blessings!

There are answers on questions: How to find an exit from addiction, and how to expand self-awareness and understand your own power in your struggle with addiction. The author goes from chapter to chapter introducing reader to some of the key laws that could change everything; things about your addictions and things about your life. There is a good description of the process of Self-discovery, Self-awareness and Self-empowerment. “As conscious awareness expands, addictions dissolve” - writes the author. The book is interesting, written with nice easy understandable language. It is useful tool for professionals working with addictions as well as for people struggling with addictions. There are good advices why it is unnecessary for you to spend time faulting your past or blaming others for your experiences. It is sufficient to simply be aware of them and to be aware of the thoughts and emotions that are associated with them. You have been depressed about your past and living in anxiety that it will continue as your future. The reader will find a way how to heal painful memories, how important is learning and meditation, meditation techniques, ‘watching your words, actions, thoughts, character, heart’. How important is to forgive, because ‘Forgiveness isn’t about making the other person feel better, it is about me letting go and not allowing others to hurt me anymore inside my heart and my head.’‘Addiction is to keep on doing what you have always done before, desperately expecting difference and feeling like you just can’t stop. It was Albert Einstein who said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”Author gives some colorful examples, true clients' stories from his practice. The book is interesting to read, informative and a useful tool for those who is looking for positive changes in their life.Tatiana Tsarouk, PhD, Hypnotherapist, Psychotherapist and Addiction Counsellor in Sunshine Coast Health Centre.
