1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A solid start By Amazon Customer I am an avid reader, but I have never read a novel in this genre. I have not read anything similar to compare this to so please forgive me. I think this is a solid start to a first book. There is some character development, the story progresses in a good manner, and it was easy to keep track of the characters and their story line. The story was unique. The author took the time to build the relationship between the characters before the catalyst for the story happened. I think people that read this genre will like this book, and may can relate to these characters.Now to the things I did not like. I did not expect the book to be sexually explicit. So if you don't like to read that type of thing you may not like it. I did not like all of the "advertising" done in the book. The author plugged her own products, and also mentioned a lot of brand name items. I don't think the story needed that. Simply saying "she drank vodka with cranberry", or "she put on a tight black dress" would have been fine instead of mentioning a brand. However, because I have have never read this genre I don't know if that the mention of brands is a common thing or not. Lastly, I think the main male character is a little soft for his role. I am fine with him being soft towards his woman, but I find it hard to believe he ran such a successful empire with his current disposition. I understand that this could change later in the subsequent novels.I think this is a solid debut novel in this genre. Though, it's not something I would generally read I think it is worth a read especially if you love books in this category. The book was not boring, and the story had a good progression rate. It is the first in a new series so not much gets solved in this first book, but that is the way of books that are in a series. The author did do a good job of creating a setting for the future books in the series.
