9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. There are better books out there. By An Nguyen-Do There’s nothing amazing about this cookbook in my opinion. I’m already eating low cab as much as I can. I think it bothers me that it keeps the name of traditional dishes without really indicating what they’re swapping out. Say I look up French Fries, and it uses carrots, olive oil, and salt. They’re not called “Carrot French Fries”, and there is not much to the recipe. The French toast is a sweet omelet. I guess it’s cool that you’re eating the flavor without carbs, but the flavor and texture are completely different. I want the same meal, but the low carb version, like cauliflower fried rice or zucchini lasagna.I also hate cookbooks with no pictures. I want to see what my finished product is supposed to look like. This book took carb loaded recipes and just took the carb item out. There are better books out there.I was provided this book in exchange for a review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Minor Satisfaction For My Craving By Sarah Fishel From the beginning, Koslo is clear. This is a book for those committed to a lifestyle change, to the long haul, to dietary difference. Don't plunge into this, thinking it's a “How To” guide for low-carb dieting. Read other sources to learn how to begin and gain speed on this change. Once you've been dieting for longer, and are hitting a lull, then I'd pick this one up. This was given to me for it's information about fighting a specific beast, CRAVINGS. The healthy alternatives and tweaks to old favorites are not lost on me, but I personally liked the pantry section. It's all about what to purchase and keep readily available to replace those carb heavy hitters, which most of the time, knock me out during the grocery shopping process. As far as recipes, sandwiches are my favorite and were a big sacrifice during this change, but this offers great bread alternatives for healthy living. Overall, the recipes are pretty good, the content is simple, and the writing is dull and uninspired. Koslo is writing AT you versus TO you. Don't expect to learn much new information, but the Dr. is in and ready to lecture.

My husband recently had some heart problems, and we have been looking for healthier ways to eat. We can both use it. So this cook book is a great addition to our cookbook collection.First off, I love how the recipes are laid out. They are all categorized, so you don't spend hours scrolling through random recipes put in random places. Cookbooks like that drive me nuts. You have the following categories;BreakfastsSidesSnacksSoups, Stews and ChiliesSandwiches, Wraps and MorePizzas and PastasCasseroles and NoodlesDessertsCondiments and DressingsNow, I have this on Kindle. I don't know how it's laid out in the regular book. The great thing about the way the table of contents is laid out is that I can go to a specific category, listed above, and I can look at the list of recipes. They list each recipe under each category name. So if you are looking for something particular, you can scroll the table of contents, and then just click that specific recipe. It will jump straight to the page that has the recipe you want, and you won't have to scroll through tons of pages. Bonus to having an electronic version I suppose LOL.The introduction fills you in on a lot of information as well. It explains the low carb commitment, cravings, the Keto Diet (which I think I might have to try!), and my fave part of the introduction, it has what's called 'The Cravings Kitchen'. It tells you what you should stock in your pantry, to tackle those cravings while keeping your diet carb friendly. There is much more information. Way too much to list here.I love that this has TONS of low carb versions of some of my favorite recipes! Even things such as Potato Skins and Corn Bread Muffins. I honestly cannot pick one favorite recipe from this! It has NUMEROUS ones that I love.The next great feature is when you go to a specific recipe, it has a description of the recipe itself before the ingredients. So if you haven't heard of the food before, you can get a feel for what it is before delving into making it and finding out later that it wasn't what you thought it was. It also shows how many each recipe serves, the prep time and the cook time. This is great if you are on a time crunch and need to find something to make in that amount of time. At the end of each recipe it shows the Calories, Carbs, etc, so you know what you're getting when you make it as well.This also has the awesome feature of telling you ahead of time if a recipe is Gluten Free, Vegetarian or Dairy Free. There is a little icon at the start of each recipe to let you know what is what! Fantastic for those on a specific diet!Overall I feel like this is a fantastic cookbook, that covers everything you need to know about a low carb diet, while giving you tons of yummy recipes! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great low carb cookbook and more information on the low carb diet!
