Is this really a cookbook? Is it a story about food? Is it a cash grab for people who hunger for more AW? Well, a dollar is worth finding out.I'm pleased to say it's not a cash grab, although it is both story and cookbook. There is a short story that encompasses the last third of the book (WYRD 2.5), taking place parallel to The Dark Knight, and it's a wonderfully written story that makes you think about some of the bigger players in the metaverse. The story itself is worth the price of admission - but - the cookbook part is great as well. Do not just read the story and put the book down - go back and read the recipes! The recipes are good, but loaded with extra content as well. There are short stories, poems, and of course a rant from our good friend(?) Doctor Midnite. While not being a new book - it's still a great addition to the series - and worth picking up.

My kids name the squirrels around our house, so we can't use them in our end-of-world dinnertime. There are no penguins in the middle of Oklahoma, and all the Chupacabras have disappeared. Thank goodness AW author Elena Giorgi had the sense to submit a recipe for vegetarians or I might just starve to death. In fact, several of the recipes don't include meat, something I was thrilled to see in a cookbook that is sure to be definitive resource when the world goes mad. I especially appreciated the instructions for alcohol creations, as those will be used by many of us as we hunker down and avoid the crazies outside. I recommend this cookbook as it contains a variety of recipes and protein sources that will help you and your loved ones survive the End of the World.

Wall **I received an advanced reader copy**I didn't know what to think about the description for this one. A cookbook? Really? Well...yes. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and drinks. Using real and imaginary ingredients. This makes up the bulk of the book. On the plus side, commentary is included for most of the recipes which made it kind of entertaining? I found myself skimming through most of them. There is an exempt from Michael Bunker's WICK book (I haven't read the series) which while it fits in with the apocalypse theme, is an addition I don't understand. For me the pay off was in the last third of this 128 page volume. A nonsensical rant from Dr. Midnite that left me wanting more. A short story from Nick Cole.I've really enjoyed his novels, so this story was quite a treat. Think of it as a thrilling teaser chapter to the next Apocalypse Weird novel. The story has action, suspense, a new type of zombie, and dialogue that got me thinking.I admit I was ready to stop reading during the recipe section. I have bought quite a few 99 cent short stories and if I consider this as such then it's a good buy. Read or skip the first two thirds as you see fit.
