About the Author
Crockett Johnson was born in New York and spent his childhood on Long Island. He acquired his art education at New York University and at Cooper Union.
For many years the author and illustrator of the popular comic strip Barnaby, Mr. Johnson also illustrated many wonderful children's books, including Ruth Krauss's The Carrot Seed. He is perhaps best remembered for his own slyly engaging books about a small boy named Harold and his journeys with a purple crayon.

We check it out occasionally from our local library, but I knew it was a must for her bookshelf. I ordered this for Christmas, so she hasn't actually received it yet. I was a little disappointed when I opened it, but that's all on my part. I thought when I ordered this that it was a hardcover edition with paper pages (I misread the product title), but it's actually a cardboard book. It's not a problem though, she'll still love it. It has half as many pages as the paperback edition, what it printed on 2 pages in paperback is all on one page in this book. The pictures are great as well. I have nothing negative to say about this box set!

This edition itself is well made, though not as durable as board books. It really is difficult to find a more universally loveable classic. I would highly recommend this to any parents, especially to those of a 1-year-old.
