About the Author Soma Mukhopadhyay is the Executive Director of Education for HALO (Helping Autism through Learning & Outreach) in Austin, TX. Soma holds a Bachelors of Education degree and a Masters degree in Chemistry . Students come from all over the world to benefit from her innovative teaching approach . Since developing the Rapid Prompting Method to teach her own son Tito, Soma has been featured on CNN International, 60 Minutes II, PBS, Good Morning America, Scientific American, the New York Times, National Geographic magazines. Soma is the author of five books including this title, "Understanding Autism through Rapid Prompting Method", "Developing Communication Using Rapid Prompting Method", "Curriculum Guide for Autism Using Rapid Prompting Method" and "Developing Motor Skills Using Rapid Prompting Method" released in 2014.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Book By Lenae Crandall This is a wonderful addition to Soma's books on Rapid Prompting Method. Soma gives great tips on how to manage stims and behaviors so that learning can take place and the student successful. Soma has a solid understanding of the neurology and sensory systems of these students. Those who may be confused or exhausted by their child or student's behavior may find understanding in the pages of this book. Questions such as: Why do they do that? What is happening in the brain when my child does that? Is that really a behavior? How can I get him to stop saying that? and many more questions are answered here. The ideas and strategies have proven useful for Soma and many others using RPM. All who may work with students who stim or have behaviors should find some very helpful tips that are both respectful and work. I highly recommend this book to all involved in the autism community and particularly those using RPM.

By Mrs. Susan Finnes This book is a practical 'how to' guide --the main focus is showing us how we an ADAPT RPM lessons to cover all situations. It covers many types of stims, behaviours and obsessions - eg repeating movie lines, obsessing over the same request, continually touching selected objects and anger, anxiety etc and gives PRACTICAL examples of how to continue to teach in these situations. An excellent practical guide to help deal with all the scenarios which may arise while teaching your child. I think this s a great read even if you are not doing RPM!
