About the Author Mark Jones is a licensed Psychosynthesis Therapist and astrologer from Bristol, UK. Educated at the Universities of Warwick and Manchester and with the Synthesis organization in Bristol, Mark is internationally known for his work in the field of Evolutionary Astrology. With over a decade of experience as a therapist and astrologer, Mark specializes in past-life analysis and on-going psychological counseling. Mark is a graduate of Noel Tyl’s Masters astrology program and is a certified Evolutionary Astrologer. Mark teaches and lectures in the U.S. annually. A great book to start the day with on the subway By Chris Ford PhD A great book to start the day with on the subway, bus, train into work (if urban life). Or to close the day with. Or to read on the beach or on the sofa over a quiet weekend. Mark Jones, a psychotherapist trained in psychosynthesis as well as an evolutionary astrologer, writes about the important combine of astrology and psychology in the evolution of ourselves. Mark illuminates how the traditions of psychotherapy and astrology can combine to (powerfully) support us in becoming more true to our individual natures (to our beings/ or if you will, our souls). A key that is a primary focus of his book is about the relationship between astrologers and people who go to them for readings and how much the dynamics between the two people play a part in whether or not the soul will have space and time to speak through the complex and vital archetypes that astrology offers. The points that he makes here about the interpersonal dynamics between astrologer and client can be extended to relationships between all types of practitioners and clients, teachers and students, as well as to any relationship of import between friends, family, or love partners. In some important sense then, whether or not one is into astrology or psychology, this is a book to read, for it speaks to the kind of presences that we bring to our relationship(s) that move our relationships toward openness and concurrent vitality or conversely toward places of heaviness and cold defenses, to power dynamics that silence. For astrologers, there is some particularly special work here on how inner planet-outer planet pairs speak to the existential and personal themes of our lives (the inner planets) and to these same themes on a more transpersonal and collective aspect (the outer planets). For example, the pair of Mercury (inner) and Uranus (outer). Mercury represents our mental capacity to language, conceptualize, define, to perceive immediate environments in intelligible ways; it is a signifier of memory on a conscious level. Uranus corresponds to memory also but to deeper more buried unconscious memories that can come through dreams, meditation, intuition, active imagination, and through these channels, become conscious. These Uranian memories, whether from in-utero, childhood, or otherwise, hold the key to a different level of healing from the memories that are more readily available to consciousness. In addition, some heartfelt writing about Saturn and Uranus cycles. Could keep going, but will stop by saying that this is an important book, highly recommended.

ESSENTIAL TOOL FOR BOTH ASTROLOGERS AND COUNSELORS By Lydia Trettis Author, Astrologer and Counselor Mark Jones has a unique ability to put a shape to the ideas and practice of astrological counseling. I am more than heartened to see it demonstrated in his book, The Soul Speaks.The book can serves as a both guide for astrologers on the practice of counseling and as a primer for counselors on the practice of Astrology. Mark shares his rich and varied experience as a Psychosynthesis Counselor and Astrologer, giving insight to how one can enhance the other.What Mark Jones has presented here is a demonstration of the head and the heart combining with a dedicated willingness to open oneself to All That Is. The three together, as we have heard many times, is far bigger than the sum of their parts. It is also far more fluid than trying to work with them individually. In The Soul Speaks, Mark weaves psychotherapy principles and techniques with astrological methodology and symbolism that welcomes a deepening and synthesis of both disciplines.Recently, I opened The Soul Speaks at random and landed in the Pisces section. What I read was exactly what I needed to hear. So, I would say that one could use the book not only as a text, but also as a touchstone. How wonderful that a counseling text can act, also, as a work of true spiritual guidance.Personal experience makes for a wonderful teacher. The synthesis of Mark’s talents is the thing that makes his contribution offered in this book so important. As a foundation, he is an excellent astrologer, having worked with both both mundane and Evolutionary astrology. He is a brilliant speaker and cheerleader. Mark is an experienced counselor who has personally done extensive spiritual work. He has a warm heart, a terrific sense of humor and a great deal of compassion. His is also a poet who is smart and well-read – all of Mark’s experience and strengths are demonstrated in The Soul Speaks.All of these strengths, together, make Mark a fantastic teacher whose expertise translates beautifully and usefully onto the page. His work really is advancing the practice of astrology for our generation and the next. Therapists who read this book may realize they need to become astrologers! Astrologers who read this book will find useful guidance and experience that can be applied when working with clients and with their own charts. Theo In The Soul Speaks: The Therapeutic Potential of Astrology, Mark Jones raises our awareness about the integral relationship between the astrologer and their seeker or client. The exchange is far more complex than just an astrologer passing precious information along to their client. The accomplished astrologer sees their client in a holistic sense, and thus meets with him or her soul-to-soul. To achieve that connective state, the astrologer needs to be actively aware of the psychological pitfalls and shadows that naturally surface in a session. Mark shares with us, the reader, the wisdom gained from his experience as a professional counselor.If you are an astrologer, or even a professional in the holistic arts, and want to "up your game," then The Soul Speaks is a must buy. Much of the material in the first chapters has clear and useful relevancy to any light worker. As you read The Soul Speaks, take your time to ponder each section. There is a depth and subtlety so a fast read will not do the book justice. The time and honest effort that you put in working with the principles contained within the book will pay dividends professionally in how you see and work with your clients.
